policy in a sector undergoing rapid transformation, while ensuring customers, communities, and the grid remain at the heart of EPCOR’s decision making.
The Senior Manager, Government Relations
Electricity
leads EPCOR’s strategy
, advocacy
and engagement
,
advis
ing
on electricity policy reform
. This includes
policies
related to
distribution
,
transmission,
market and pricing
reforms, procurement
,
wholesale markets, and competitive and regulated retail.
This role will
brin
g
clear
insight, strategic foresight, and a deep understanding of Alberta’s evolving electricity landscape
.
You will work in close partnership with a peer Senior Manager who will lead government relations
for our
water and growth business as well as our Shareholder Relations
. Together you will build a cohesive, collaborative, and high-
performing
GR team that supports EPC
OR
’s enterprise strategy
. Both roles are designed to complement one another, leveraging shared intelligence, aligned advocacy, and mutual support to strengthen EPCOR’s overall external influence.
What you’d be responsible for
In the role of
Sr. Manager, Government Relations

you are accountable to the
Director, Sustainability & Public Affairs
and will have the following key accountabilities
:
Strategic Planning & Alignment

Develop
ing
a forward-looking GR strategy for electricity aligned with
provincial and federal electricity policy trends, market developments and
EPCOR’s business plans, regulatory obligations, decarbonization strategy,
customer strategy
and
long-term
growth priorities.

Integrat
ing
electricity
-focused
GR strategy
across the organization
, ensuring alignment and shared understanding of risks, opportunities, and policy direction
.

Provid
ing
strategic foresight on emerging federal and provincial electricity reforms
,
enabling EPCOR to anticipate change earlier and influence outcomes proactively.

Federal, Provincial & Interprovincial Engagement

Build
ing
and maintain
ing
senior relationships with provincial
and federal
electricity ministries, the AESO, AUC, federal
agencies
, system operators, and
peer
electricity stakeholders across Alberta.

Support
ing
EPCOR’s leadership in provincial consultations, technical working groups,
multi-stakeholder
forums,
and
national policy conversations.
-
Lead
ing
EPCOR advocacy on electricity
-related
grants, incentive, and
federal/provincial
funding opportunities.
Relationship Management
-
Lead
ing
cross-company relationship strategies for electricity-related government and regulatory partners.
-
Develop
ing
ongoing
intelligence on political and market dynamics, proactively identifying risks and opportunities.
Operational Excellence & Team Leadership
-
Oversee
ing
monitoring, analysis,
issues
escalation management, and
strategic
reporting on electricity policy files.
-
Provid
ing
coaching, issue leadership, and quality oversight for team members supporting electricity policy and GR.
What’s required to be successful
Education and Credentials
-
Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized North American post-secondary institution. A
degree
in one of the following fields is considered an asset: Political Science,
Public Policy,
Public Administration, Business, Communications,
Economics
or related fields.
-
Graduate Degree in
Public
Policy, Business Administration, or Communications is considered an asset.
Experience
-
10+ years of
experience in
government relations
, public policy
, regulatory affairs, or roles directly connected to electricity systems in industry, government, regulatory bodies, or public agencies.
-
Deep familiarity with the Alberta electricity market, including policy frameworks, regulatory structures, wholesale market design, retail models
, and system operator functions.
-
Demonstrated e
xperience with strategy development,
budget management, enterprise reporting,
and
executive
communication
.
-
Advanced written and verbal communication tailored to diverse audiences, including reporting to C-Suite and Board levels.
-
Experience navigating privacy legislation and access to information frameworks is desired.
