We are seeking a creative, dynamic, committed professional to join our team:

Team Manager, Occupational Health & Safety1.0 Regular, Full-timeMonday - Friday, 35 hours per weekUnion Exempt Level 9: $117,995 to $138,845

Reporting to the Superintendent of Employee Services, the Team Manager, Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) oversees OH&S programs and initiatives for the District, including the implementation of accident prevention and safety awareness programs. Manages hazardous conditions, chemical disposal, emergencies and accident investigations, as well as managing the Indoor Environmental Quality assessment and investigations. This position works collaboratively with staff, central departments, federation partners and the Ministry of Labour to enhance the safety posture of the organization.

Qualifications

Post secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or related field, from a recognized institution and a minimum of 6 years of related experience, including experience working in an educational and unionized environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must be registered as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional Thorough knowledge of human resource administration, HR principles and practices in an educational and unionized environment. Thorough knowledge of collective agreements, handbooks and relevant employment and education legislation. Managerial skills for hiring, supervising and evaluating staff; as well as demonstrating leadership for coaching, mentoring, and motivating teams; demonstrated commitment to teamwork and team building. Interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) for liaising and interacting to establish relationships within the District, and partnerships with outside agencies; working collaboratively with others to reach common goals; Writing skills for preparing Board reports; Oral communications for making presentations to large or small groups, including chairing meetings. Judgment skills required for decision-making and taking appropriate action to resolve problems and conflicts. Organizational skills, including time management techniques for juggling multiple priorities, deadlines, working within short timelines, and ability to reprioritize when emergencies arise. Analytical and problem solving skills required. Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations of Ontario, and associated regulations and guidelines Broad knowledge of building and fire codes, environmental regulations, as well as a full range of training and presentation skills relevant to an adult education environment. Knowledge of applicable software applications, including Microsoft Suite and Google applications, in order to accomplish work of this position Access to reliable transportation when required to visit schools or administrative sites.
