THE OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader to join Football Alberta as Technical Director. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Technical Director serves as the lead technical expert for the organization, responsible for the vision, development, and implementation of all football programs in the province. This role focuses on player and coach development from grassroots to high performance, ensuring a robust and progressive pathway for all participants. The Technical Director will oversee all technical aspects of both tackle and flag football, working to grow the game and enhance the quality of programming across Alberta.
THE ORGANIZATION
Football Alberta is the Provincial Sport Governing Non-Profit Association For All Amateur Football in Alberta. Founded in 1973, the organization now represents over 600 teams and approximately 20,000 players, coaches, officials, and volunteers throughout the province.

To develop, promote, coordinate, regulate and foster the growth of all aspects of amateur football in Alberta. Our aim is to establish an administrative structure which will provide programs and services to accomplish this stated objective and mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Player Development & High Performance
- Develop LTAD Strategy: Design and implement a comprehensive Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) strategy for football in Alberta, ensuring age- and stage-appropriate programming.
- Oversee Minor Provincials: Manage and oversee the execution of Minor Provincial championships for both female and male athletes.
- Assist Team Alberta: Provide technical support and assistance for Team Alberta's high-performance programming, ensuring athletes are prepared for regional and national competitions.
- Indigenous Program Coordination: Lead the coordination and development of football programs specifically for Indigenous communities across the province.
Flag Football Growth & Development
The Technical Director will be the primary driver for the expansion and enhancement of flag football in Alberta:
- Actively support the creation and growth of grassroots flag football programs and assist in the development of new leagues.
- Develop and implement flag football programs and resources for elementary, junior high, and high schools.
- Oversee the planning and execution of Flag Football Provincial and National Events hosted in Alberta.
- Provide technical guidance and support for elite-level flag football teams representing the province.
Membership & Program Management
- Oversee membership services and initiatives, including specialized programs like Project 26, aimed at growing female football.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison for minor football teams and leagues, providing guidance, resources, and support.
- Lead the planning and management for major national event hosting opportunities, such as the U16 West and U18 Football Canada Cup (FCC) in 2027/2028.
- Supervise and manage technical and administrative support staff to ensure effective program delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary degree in Kinesiology, Sport Management, Physical Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in sport administration and program development, with a strong technical background in football and involvement at the provincial or national sport level.
- NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) certification, preferably as a Learning Facilitator or Evaluator.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing LTAD-aligned programs.
- Strong understanding of both flag and tackle football.
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Proven ability to manage staff, major events, and complex projects, while providing strong leadership and mentoring to inspire athletes, coaches, and volunteers.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills for working with diverse stakeholders, including minor associations, coaches, volunteers, and community partners.
- Commitment to Safe Sport principles and to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion across all programs.
- Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to align technical programming with Football Alberta’s mission, vision, and long-term objectives.
