Senior Institutional Analyst, Rankings

About the role

Purpose: The Senior Institutional Analyst, Rankings develops and supports the university-wide performance metrics, communicates and disseminate the results of domestic and international rankings. Reporting to the Manager, Institutional Reporting and Analysis and working closely with the Assistant Vice President, Institutional Planning and Chief Data Officer and the Assistant Vice-President, Global Engagement and Partnerships, the position ensures a robust digital suite of reports and information is distributed to senior leaders and decision makers. The Senior Institutional Analyst will design, implement, test, and manage systems and tools to collect, store, report, and analyze data and trends as they relate to institutional rankings. The role prepares University's rankings submissions and provides an analysis of international rankings performance. The role works collaboratively with York International and with Communication and Public Affairs to deliver and disseminate analytics that support institutional planning and priorities particularly as they relate to international and domestic rankings. The role fosters the development and maintenance of effective, collaborative relationships, an understanding of the nature of questions from data users to support them in further defining their needs, rankings agencies and ranking methodologies. The role develops solutions and reports that respond to those needs in a clear and easily accessible way. The role supports the implementation of an institutional rankings strategy to promote York University's global positioning and institutional performance.

Education: Master's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Statistics, Data Science, etc.)

Experience: Five years related experience. years of demonstrated competencies
Experience in institutional research, statistics, survey/research methods, data science, predictive modeling, applied marketing research, social science research, and/or similar fields.
Experience mentoring and training others to increase their own knowledge and abilities in data science, and a willingness to share skills and techniques with peers and colleagues.
Experience working with university or college enrolment, financial, faculty, or research data.

Skills: Knowledge of postsecondary and domestic and international rankings.
Familiarity with principles of business intelligence and analytics.
Familiarity and aptitude to use MS Office suite of tools, and other reporting tools.
Proficiency in using applications to extract, transform, and analyze data (e.g., Microsoft Excel/Access, SAS or equivalent, Power BI).
Proficiency in documenting processes and procedures.
Proficiency in research, writing and interpretation, and problem solving.
Expertise in analytical applications, program development, and evaluation methodologies.
Effective customer-service orientation, and well-developed negotiation skills.
Proven ability to impart understanding of complicated ideas and statistics in a clear and simple manner to a wide variety of university partners, from frontline staff to senior leadership.
Demonstrated analytical, project management, and creative problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex and large datasets from various sources, extract actionable insights, and communicate these to business users.
Proven ability to build, implement, and optimize predictive data models to analyze ranking methodologies and support scenario planning.
Highly developed interpersonal skills.
High degree of professionalism, ethical sensitivity, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and meet challenging and changing deadlines.

-Compensation:

York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.Visit the CPM Compensation page on the HR Website to find out more about York's CPM Compensation Program.
