Objectives

Our client, a professional engineering firm, has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Process Engineer with a background in process and/or chemical engineering.

The successful candidates will provide engineering expertise and technical leadership in the planning, design, coordination, and execution of complex engineering projects. This includes diverse projects, each ranging from $1 million to $200 million total capital cost, primarily for upstream oil and gas facilities and pipelines. They will support multidisciplinary teams across Engineering, Project Management, Construction, Quality, and Procurement to deliver accurate designs, efficient execution, and strong regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

At a minimum, we require: Accredited Engineering degree (Process, Chemical, or related). Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation. 10+ years of experience providing process engineering services for oil and gas facilities and pipelines.

Responsibilities

Engineering Design

Lead engineering design activities by completing calculations, assessments, and technical reviews with a high degree of accuracy and appropriate independence. Collaborate with the Process Engineer Manager to develop and refine engineering methodologies, standards, and industry best practices. Provide detailed review and validation of engineering deliverables, including drawings, specifications, and engineered components, to ensure feasibility and adherence to company standards. Troubleshoot complex engineering challenges and propose practical, cost-effective technical solutions. Collaborate closely with the Drafting department to review markups, verify drawing accuracy, and ensure alignment between design intent and final documentation. Maintain organized and accurate engineering records, including calculations, design revisions, and technical notes. Participate in and lead initiatives to strengthen engineering workflows, design templates, and inter-departmental communication. Mentor junior engineers and Engineers-in-Training (EITs), providing ongoing guidance, training, and technical oversight.

Professional Accountability & Compliance

Prepare, review, and stamp engineering drawings, plans, and technical documentation, taking professional and legal responsibility for accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance. Ensure all engineering work aligns with quality expectations, safety standards, and provincial/federal regulatory requirements. Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, and submissions required for regulatory approval and project records.

Project Planning & Execution

Support project planning activities by providing technical input for estimates, scopes of work (SOW), schedules, and multidisciplinary risk assessments. Act as a central point of contact to coordinate engineering requirements across Project Management, Construction, Quality, Procurement, and Drafting teams. Proactively identify potential design risks, constructability issues, or technical gaps, ensuring they are documented, escalated, and resolved appropriately. Conduct site assessments and visits to gather technical data, verify field conditions, and ensure design intent matches real-world constraints. Support construction and commissioning teams by responding to technical queries and providing real-time engineering solutions to field-based challenges.
