Job Description:
The Integrated Stroke Unit and Rehabilitation Inpatient is a 40 bed unit that oversees the acute care needs of patients that have had a stroke, and as soon as they are ready and appropriate for rehabilitation, moves them right into the intensive rehabilitation program. The unit provides best practice stroke care and follows evidence-based clinical pathways. The unit uses evidence-based screening tools, techniques, and equipment to develop each patients' needs and functional goals. The team consists of physicians, registered nurses, registered practical nurses, patient care assistants, dietitians, pharmacists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, a discharge planner, social worker, a respiratory therapist, a speech language pathologist, a chaplain, unit clerks, and volunteers. Each member has a specific role to play to ensure seamless integration of care and together, they strive to provide exceptional care to each patient and family. As the Registered Nurse (RN) you are a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with the philosophy, policies and standards of care of the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and all relevant legislation. The role will be assigned to support the organization-wide Surge Plan for Surge Level 3. The reporting department will be Integrated Stroke, however these roles will be utilized to care for medicine patients assigned to beds in multiple clinical areas within RVH.
As a qualified candidate you will have the following job requirements:

Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario

Current BCLS
-
Additional formal educational requirements/certifications as required in department
-
Membership in professional association specific to nursing service area
-
Computer literacy in current software applications
-
Demonstrated commitment to the professional growth and development of self and others
-
Demonstrated commitment to the concepts of Continuous Quality Improvement and Customer Service
You will be an ideal candidate for this position if you have:

Ability to function independently within the scope of practice

Sound problem solving, communication (oral and written), conflict resolution and decision making skills

Excellent organizational skills

Sound knowledge of nursing process and responsibilities of profession

Ability to learn about, from and with other members of the patient care team to foster a strong Interprofessional model of care

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, located in Barrie, Ontario, provides safe, high-quality care for residents across a large geographical region including Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka. The area is home to more than 450,000 residents, with half of RVH’s patients living outside the City of Barrie.
As the largest health centre in North Simcoe Muskoka, RVH provides highly specialized services, and technology not found anywhere else in the region. This includes the only interventional radiology suites for minimally invasive surgeries, vascular services, advanced stroke care, as well as dedicated trauma rooms in its large Emergency department. RVH is also home to the Hudson Regional Cancer Centre, Simcoe Muskoka Regional Heart Program, Simcoe Muskoka Regional Child and Youth Program and the RVH Regional Renal Program meaning distance is no longer a factor for residents receiving lifesaving treatment.
