This position will work in collaboration with the Pharmacy Technician program in the School of Health Science and Human Services Under the direction of the Manager, Clinical Placements and or/ Dean and/or Associate Dean, this position will set annual priorities for meeting the various and emerging needs of Health Science and Human Services.

Specific Duties

Clinical and lab duties:

  • Monitor and supervise students in the operation and maintenance of the lab area.

  • Monitor sign out of clinic equipment.

  • Supervise and coordinate dispensary duties.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot clinic equipment.

  • Maintain the space and equipment within the simulated community and hospital pharmacy.

  • Monitor waste management and document accordingly.

  • Update the operations manual annually.

  • Maintain the general upkeep of the lab area.

  • Coordinate clinic activities in consultation with faculty.

  • Maintain weekly cleaning of sterilization equipment.

  • Perform quality control procedures for e.g. step wedge testing on X-ray units.

  • Responsible for minor repairs to equipment and instruments and facilitates preventative maintenance and/or major repairs as required.

  • Set up and maintain inventory control system and records, and order supplies and disposable items for utilization in the laboratories and clinic.

  • Monitor WHMIS compliance within the lab/work area including keeping an inventory of controlled products, maintaining the MSDS binder, and ensuring containers of controlled products have correct WHMIS labelling.

  • Conduct safety orientations for all lab instructors.

  • Assist the instructors and students with the lab set up and closing of lab.

  • Attend department and divisional meetings as needed.

  • Assist with accreditation processes as required.

Administrative Duties:

  • Responsible for purchasing with P-card and submit expense reports.
  • Tracking of the budget and expenditures of supplies.
  • Assess & identify the need for new equipment or capital supplies prior to budget preparation each year and submit business case(s) to Associate Dean.
  • Assist with invigilation of exams and surveys.
  • Generate all forms used by the Pharmacy Technician Program.
  • Confirm After Hours lab bookings; monitor student safety.
  • Attend department and divisional meetings.
  • You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners and communities.
  • You will promote a positive work atmosphere and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Recognized one (1) year certificate in a Pharmacy Assistant program

  • 3 years or more In the pharmacy field

  • Must have initiative and demonstrate organizational abilities and work with minimal supervision

  • Knowledge of equipment/supplies used in pharmacy

  • Must have the ability to interact well with instructors, students and the general public

  • Excellent keyboarding and computer skills. Experience using Excel spreadsheets is an asset

  • Must be able to multi-task

  • Good telephone etiquette

  • Physically able to complete job requirements
