This position blends strategic leadership with hands-on involvement, encompassing traditional HR functions—such as compliance, employee relations, and performance management—along with culture-building, engagement, learning and development, and workforce planning initiatives.

Reporting to the Vice President, you will lead a team of two, providing both strategic guidance and active support for key People & Culture programs and processes. This is a full-time, primarily onsite position with some hybrid flexibility in Vancouver or Victoria, and occasional travel to other AES offices as required.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as trusted advisor to the VP and leadership team on people-related matters.
  • Lead organizational design, workforce planning, and succession planning.
  • Oversee recruitment and talent acquisition, its alignment to workforce plans, budgets, and headcount forecasting.

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Manage HR policies, procedures, and compliance with Employment Standards Act, human rights legislation, and other applicable provincial laws in Canada.
  • Utilize HR information systems, Applicant tracking systems and other systems to drive efficiency and accuracy.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve HR dashboards and metrics (turnover, headcount, time-to-fill, etc.) to support business reporting.
  • Lead goal setting, performance reviews, and salary review processes.
  • Partner with Finance to ensure payroll compliance and operational accuracy of employee related processes.

Culture & Engagement

  • Promote consistency in HR processes and employee experience across all AES offices.
  • Oversee company-wide engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and follow-up action planning based on employee survey feedback.
  • Drive retention-focused programs in partnership with the P&C Coordinator and HR Generalist.

Learning & Development

  • Design and manage leadership and professional development programs.
  • Identify organizational skill gaps and collaborate with technical and operational leaders to implement targeted training plans.
  • Ensure all mandatory training programs are implemented and completed on schedule.

Employee Relations

  • Develop and oversee employee relations and workplace conduct policies.

  • Lead employee relations matters, including investigations, conflict resolution, and performance improvement plans.

  • Lead, coach, and develop the People & Culture team while providing coaching and support to managers and employees.

Our Must Haves:

  • 8–10+ years progressive HR leadership experience, preferably in engineering, or technical industries with at least a couple of years of leadership experience within a complex, multi disciplinary and evolving organization.

  • A university degree in HR or equivalent and a CPHR designation is preferred.

  • Deep understanding of HR compliance, employee relations, and organizational development.

  • Experience leading culture, engagement, and change management initiatives.

  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills; proven ability to work across diverse teams and geographies.

  • Proven exceptional communication skills and ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of an organization.

  • Proven track record of supporting diverse and distributed teams.

Compensation: $100,000- $130,000.
