About the Role

We are looking for a Maintenance Technician – Electrical who wants to CELLebrate in a fast-paced and fast-changing environment. As part of the ramp-up team at our St. Thomas location, you will report to the Maintenance Supervisor. The Maintenance Technician – Electrical will be responsible for ensuring the operational readiness and reliability of manufacturing equipment, systems, and infrastructure. They will perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance while ensuring safety.

This position is required to be fully onsite and eventually will transition to a shift based work model

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Reliability

  • Independantly perform and document preventive and predictive maintenance to ensure optimal equipment performance, minimize downtime, and maintain compliance with safety standards and CMMS recordkeeping.

  • Monitor equipment performance data to refine maintenance strategies, manage critical spare parts, and lead initiatives that improve work order efficiency, reduce backlog, and lower maintenance-related downtime and costs.

Equipment Installation, Setup and Commissioning

  • Collaborate with engineering teams, project groups, and contractors to install, align, calibrate, and commission new equipment and systems, ensuring functionality, safety, and compliance with technical specifications.

  • Review technical documentation and perform pre-operational and safety tests, using hoisting and lifting equipment as required to safely position and prepare machinery for operation.

Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis

  • Provide timely technical support to diagnose and resolve equipment issues, ensuring minimal production disruption.

  • Conduct complex root cause analyses of mechanical, electrical, or software-related equipment failures and implement effective corrective actions.

  • Troubleshoot PLC systems for custom-built automated machinery. Inspect and adjust equipment settings to meet operational and quality standards.

  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and early-stage reliability concerns.

Reliability Engineering and Continuous Improvement

  • Implement long-term reliability solutions to enhance equipment performance and reduce lifecycle costs.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing waste, optimizing uptime, and improving process efficiency.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute equipment upgrades and process improvements.

  • Monitor new production equipment during early operations to ensure targets are achieved and reliability standards are met.

Training and Coordination

  • Operate independently on complex technical assignments while mentoring junior technicians.

  • Lead small-scale maintenance or reliability projects and coordinate activities with contractors or vendors.

  • Train operators and maintenance staff on new equipment, procedures, and CMMS functionality.

Planning, Documentation and Compliance

  • Develop and maintain maintenance schedules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and safety protocols.

  • Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in accordance with organizational, safety, and regulatory standards.

  • Maintain thorough documentation of inspections, repairs, and updates to support audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

What you bring to the Team

  • Relevant Post-Secondary education with a minimum of 2 years as a licensed Industrial Electrician (309A/442A)

  • 7+ years within an industrial maintenance role with exposure to commissioning/ installation/servicing (ideal), preferably within lithium-ion battery, chemical, pharmaceutical, or automotive manufacturing environments, with 3 years in a role with direct mentorship or supervisory experience

  • Proficient with CMMS/EAM systems for maintenance tracking and reporting, and automated systems including PLCs, robotics, VFDs and HMI

  • Experience with PLCs, robotics (Fanuc/Kuka), with a preference for Siemens S7 (desirable)

  • Advanced problem-solving skills with a proven ability to diagnose and repair complex automation issues using clear communication within a team environment

  • Knowledge of material handling, conveyor systems, pumps, gearboxes, drive systems, and industrial automation as well as familiarity with production processes and related equipment

  • Proven ability to interpret electrical prints and OEM documentation, read part processing drawings and understand electrical/automation processing technology

  • General electrical knowledge including relay control, transformers (HV/LV), and calibration / instrumentation

  • In-depth knowledge of the knowledge of Ontario Electrical Code

  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) in English

  • Able to travel internationally for up to 3 months for training purposes
