About the role

Lotus Group is excited to partner with an organization that provides turnkey remote accommodation solutions, serving a variety of industries such as mining, oil & gas, LNG, renewable energy, exploration, construction and forestry for over 20 years. Our client is seeking a General Manager to join their team in Spruce Grove, Alberta.

Reporting to the President/CEO, this individual will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the day-to-day operations of the organization, including service shop operations, field execution, fleet readiness, and project delivery. This role provides operational leadership across all divisions, ensuring efficiency, accountability, safety, and profitability while positioning the company for scalable growth. The General Manager enables the President/CEO to focus on strategic growth initiatives by ensuring operational excellence and strong internal leadership.

Role Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

  • Lead all day-to-day operations across service, fieldwork, and project execution
  • Ensure equipment, fleet, and personnel are deployment-ready
  • Drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Oversee scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow management
  • Monitor KPIs related to productivity, safety, quality, and margin

Financial Performance

  • Manage operational budgets and cost controls
  • Improve gross margins through efficiency and accountability
  • Review and approve operational expenditures
  • Partner with finance to monitor job costing, change orders, and variance tracking
  • Ensure accurate forecasting of labour and equipment needs

Team Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Directly oversee Operations Managers, Service Shop Manager, Fleet/Quality Control Manager, Project Managers, and Administration Leads, providing leadership, coordination, and strategic direction to ensure operational efficiency, project delivery, and organizational performance
  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability standards
  • Lead recruitment and development of operational talent
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and coaching
  • Promote a culture of ownership, professionalism, and solution-driven thinking

Project & Field Oversight

  • Regular travel to remote project sites across Canada (typically 25% but may fluctuate depending on project requirements)
  • Oversee the mobilization and demobilization of equipment and camps
  • Ensure field teams meet safety, quality, and client standards
  • Provide leadership during major project start-ups
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and client requirements

Asset & Fleet Management

  • Ensure proper inspection, maintenance, and quality control of equipment
  • Oversee damage assessments and client cost recoveries
  • Ensure assets are work-ready and meet company quality standards
  • Improve lifecycle management and fleet utilization rates

Operational Process Improvement

  • Lead modernization of operational systems, including scheduling, fleet tracking, maintenance management, and project reporting
  • Introduce scalable processes and digital tools to improve efficiency, reporting accuracy, and operational visibility
  • Identify opportunities to streamline project management workflows across shop, field, and administrative teams

Client & Stakeholder Support

  • Support key client relationships during project execution
  • Assist with operational aspects of proposals and contract negotiations
  • Ensure client satisfaction through consistent service delivery
  • Address escalations and operational concerns professionally

Role Requirements:

  • 7–15+ years of progressive leadership experience in operations
  • Experience in modular construction, industrial services, remote camps, or related industries
  • Strong understanding of project-based operations and field execution
  • Proven ability to lead multi-department teams
  • Strong financial acumen (budgeting, job costing, margin management)
  • Experience scaling operations in a growth-oriented environment
  • Ability to balance hands-on involvement with high-level oversight
  • Comfortable being in the field, in the shop, and in executive discussions
  • Experience building strong internal systems while maintaining high standards for performance and accountability
