We are currently seeking a Planning Technologist – Land Development to join our

Edmonton team. This position is ideal for a motivated individual interested in planning

and design, with a focus on supporting land development projects. The ideal candidate

will have design experience with lotting, transportation, utility servicing, and municipal

engineering.

What You’ll Do

As a Planning Technologist, you will play a key role in the preparation and coordination

of plans and figures for planning and land development projects. Working closely with

planners, engineers, and technologists, you will support the delivery of high-quality

design solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

Technical Design & Drafting

  • Prepare planning and engineering design drawings, including performing

computer-assisted design and drafting using AutoCAD Civil 3D.

  • Refine designs based on regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and

alignment with client’s objectives.

  • Support planners and engineers in integrating planning concepts into technical

designs.

Planning Support

  • Support the preparation of plans and figures for planning submissions including

Area Structure Plans (ASPs), Neighbourhood Structure Plans (NSPs), Outline

Plans, Subdivision Applications, and Rezoning Amendments.

  • Assist in research, mapping, and preparation of planning rationale and policy

summaries.

  • Work with planning staff to ensure design compliance with municipal land use

bylaws, policies, and development standards.

Project Coordination

  • Coordinate with consultants/clients to ensure smooth project execution in

support of timely submissions.

  • Support project managers in maintaining quality and consistency across planning

and design deliverables.

What You Bring

  • A combination of 3-8 years of education and experience in urban planning and

land development. This could include a diploma (e.g., Engineering Design

Technology), a planning certificate or degree (e.g., Urban and Regional Planning),

or equivalent practical experience.

  • Proficient knowledge using Civil 3D for plan production, and other technical

programs (Excel, Bluebeam, etc.). Knowledge in ArcGIS is considered an asset.

  • Competence in subdivision design and land development processes.
  • Knowledge in municipal, water resources, transportation, and land development

design.

  • Familiarity with municipal approvals process in the City of Edmonton and

surrounding municipalities.

  • Ability to multi-task across multiple projects and understand priorities to meet

deadlines.
