About the role
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Azure Data Engineer to design, develop, and support cloud-based data engineering and data science solutions on Microsoft Azure. The role combines Data Engineering and Data Science responsibilities, including building automated data pipelines, Azure Lakehouse architectures, analytics models, dashboards, and AI/ML solutions. The successful candidate will have strong expertise in Azure data services, Databricks, Power BI, Python, SQL, and enterprise-scale analytics platforms within a Public Sector environment.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain cloud-based data engineering and analytics solutions. Build and maintain Azure Data Lake, Lakehouse, and medallion architecture solutions. Develop automated data ingestion, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data transformation processes. Design analytics models, dashboards, and reporting solutions using Power BI. Integrate AI, Machine Learning, and NLP techniques into analytics solutions where applicable. Support modelling, forecasting, and scenario analysis initiatives. Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to gather requirements and recommend technical solutions. Troubleshoot, optimize, and support production data platforms and analytics products. Prepare technical documentation and conduct knowledge transfer sessions for internal teams. Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, Agile ceremonies, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Must Have Requirements
Experience with multiple cloud-based data and analytics platforms and coding/programming/scripting tools to build, maintain, and support enterprise analytics solutions. Strong experience designing, developing, and maintaining cloud-based Data Lakes, Lakehouse architectures, automated data pipelines, analytics models, medallion architecture, and dashboards in production environments. Deep expertise with Azure Storage, Azure Data Lake, Azure Databricks Lakehouse, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Power BI, Python, and SQL. Experience assessing client business and IT requirements and translating them into technical solutions. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for resolving complex, multi-component technical issues. Experience covering both Data Engineering (data pipelines) and Data Science (AI/ML, forecasting, analytics) responsibilities. Public Sector experience is mandatory.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
Preferred Certifications
Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203) Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Scientist Associate (DP-100) Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional
Preferred Qualifications
Experience implementing AI/ML and Natural Language Processing (NLP) solutions. Experience with enterprise data governance and data-sharing processes. Experience conducting technical knowledge-transfer sessions and preparing documentation. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Experience leading technical initiatives and mentoring team members.
