What is the opportunity?
Reporting into a Senior Director, you will support the Mid-Market Leveraged Finance (MMLF) team in realization of the Corporate Client Group’s (CCG) objectives through the structuring, delivery and account management of senior leveraged lending relationships principally to Private Equity (PE) owned/backed companies. MMLF is responsible for ensuring adequate legal, accounting, business, and financial due diligence is completed within RBC’s risk appetite to support the extension of leveraged loans, and ongoing monitoring, account management and realization of additional ancillary business for client and sponsor relationships. MMLF is mandated to support loan origination across Canada and within the majority of industries.
What will you do?
- Assist in generation, assessment and completion of financings with private equity sponsor owned businesses, and ongoing management and monitoring of the MMLF portfolio
- Develop an understanding of RBC credit appetite and the broad MMLF (and CCG) credit portfolio
- Assist in the preparation of materials for both internal and external purposes (e.g. credit submissions to Group Risk Management (GRM)and presentation materials to support new lending opportunities)
- Perform appropriate due diligence including, but not limited to, identifying and substantiating key risks; developing company specific financial modelling and sensitivity analysis, with focus on understanding cash flows; industry reviews from a variety of sources to provide team with comparable company information and industry insight on trends and areas of opportunity; and PE/sponsor diligence, including investment track record/ returns and partnership with capital providers
- Interact and develop working relationships with other Associates/Associate Directors within CCG and Capital Markets to facilitate deal execution by sharing key practices and transaction experience
- Support CCG Relationship Management team in the preparation and presentation of marketing pitches to existing and potential clients
- Follow up and engage with RBC partners and functions including GRM, Capital Markets, Personal and Commercial Banking, Wealth Management, and others
- Provide research, analysis, and data (market, industry, client, and competitor) to support MMLF advice on the optimal capital structure required to meet strategic objectives with each client relationship
- Provide analysis and support to Managing Director/Senior Director(s)/Director(s), MMLF on risk and return associated with loan transactions and client relationships
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Undergraduate degree with a focus in Business, Economics, Mathematics or other problem solving fields
- 2 – 5 years of work experience in a related field, including corporate lending/finance and/or risk management
- Understanding of finance and accounting with the ability to translate concepts to specific transactions
- Ability to model financial sensitivity and scenario worksheets
- Strong collaboration, written and oral communication, analytical and technical skills
- Problem solving skills and comfort working with ambiguity and ability to synthesize various data points/analysis into a defensible position/conclusion
Nice-to-have
- Graduate degree with a focus in Business, Economics, Mathematics or other problem solving fields
- CPA, CFA or other relevant professional designation – ongoing or completed
- Credit experience
- Strong computer literacy with emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint presentation skills
- Bilingual (French and English) communication skills
