Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting with the overall operations of the Solid Waste Management site, including assisting public, completing required documentation, operating weigh scales, maintaining and keeping the site tidy and in order.

Anticipated end date: November 29, 2025.

Temp PT Monday & Saturday shift 8:15am-4:45pm

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)

  1. Operation of electronic weigh scales - assessment and collection of tippage fees.

  2. Completion of all required landfill and transfer station documentation, compost logs, daily disposal sheets etc.

  3. Complete daily bank deposits.

  4. Deal effectively and professionally with customers and contractors in a positive and courteous manner, including conflict resolution.

  5. Manage and remove contaminants from divertable materials.

  6. Operation of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Depot including accepting materials from customers, placing material and/or bulking materials appropriately within the HHW depot.

  7. Operate computer, scales and debit/credit machines. Troubleshoot and solve technical problems (i.e. computer, debit or printer).

  8. Ability to operate small equipment (i.e. skid steer, lawn mower, weed eater, tire de-rimmer, snow blower).

  9. Directing customers to place incoming waste material in appropriate diversion areas on site.

  10. Maintenance, clean-up, and packaging of all diversion areas including but not limited to clean wood, contaminated wood, brush, compost, metal, tires, drywall, shingles, blue box materials/cardboard, HHW and electronics, mattresses and organics.

  11. Grounds maintenance and clean-up, other duties as assigned (i.e. grass cutting, litter picking, snow removal).

  12. Comply with provincial and County occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.

  13. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Good writing, mathematical and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated computer experience in a Windows environment would be an asset.

  • Must be able to deal with public in a courteous manner.

  • Must be able/willing to work Saturdays regularly.

  • Must possess a valid G Class Driver’s license.

  • Must provide own transportation to and from site(s).

  • Criminal Records Check that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.

EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of waste management facilities and practices.

  • Experience in dealing with public.

  • Cash handling experience.

EFFORT

  • Ability to lift up to 20 kgs.

  • Walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting, climbing, carrying and/or pulling of items.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent exposure to inclement weather, garbage, noise, foul odors, extreme temperatures, dust, dirt, etc.

Salary Grade

$28.07 - $29.16
