Therefore, we are seeking an Accountant - Corporate Reporting & SAP Consto join our growing team in Calgary, Alberta. This dynamic role is instrumental in orchestrating the monthly SAP consolidations process and serving as the bridge between technical accounting and operational efficiency. The role provides expert guidance on complex consolidation entries to ensure the integrity of financial data, while ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of quality financial reporting to North American executive management and Beijing headquarters. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience working with many of the Divisions and Corporate groups within the organization while supporting external financial disclosures and strategic decision-making across CPNA’s finance teams.

Your Background

  • Professional Accounting Designation (CA, CPA, CMA, CGA) (7+ years’ experience is preferred).
  • Advanced experience and knowledge of SAP and BI is desirable, including SAP Consolidation.
  • Experience in a multinational or multi-entity corporate environment is preferred.
  • Previous experience in the Oil & Gas Industry preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently, when necessary, with flexibility to adhere to deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Your Role with Our Team

Reporting and Analysis

  • Assist in the preparation and review of consolidated analysis and reporting of financial results of CNOOC for monthly and interim reporting to executive management and the Beijing head office including presentations, memos and various other communications related to monthly, periodic, interim results and annual results.
  • Develop co-operative relationships with the divisional finance teams to ensure accurate and timely provision of information. Obtain analysis of results from the divisions and review critically. Liaise with divisions to obtain any additional analysis where necessary. Look for opportunities to improve the flow of financial information within the company.
  • Establish and develop month-end and periodic processes and procedures around corporate reporting to improve efficiency and continually assess to ensure that it meets the changing requirements of executive management and the Beijing office.
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of quarterly and annual Statistics Canada Surveys.

Financial Consolidations

  • Coordinate monthly SAP data transfer to HQ, including identifying and preparing elimination entries that enable both SAP systems to consolidate properly.
  • Ensure timely and accurate consolidation of financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
  • Review intercompany transactions and eliminations, ensuring accurate reporting.

Compliance and Standards

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, corporate policies, and internal controls.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and addressing inquiries.
  • Monitor changes in accounting regulations and implement necessary updates in reporting practices.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to streamline consolidation and reporting processes.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance data quality and reporting accuracy across the organization.
