Position Summary
As the Data Solutions Specialist, you will be working primarily within a Microsoft-centric ecosystem. Your role entails furnishing dependable, scalable database solutions tailored to fulfill both immediate and long-term objectives of the BC Securities Commission. Your responsibilities include crafting and enhancing data models, data analysis, overseeing diverse data pipelines, administering databases, ad-hoc reporting requests, and actively engaging in project initiatives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, design scalable and efficient data solutions, and ensure the reliability and performance of our data systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Participates in the architecture of new application solutions

  • Manages all corporate data models, maintaining and extending these as required

  • Designs and implements data pipelines to automate data ingestion, processing, and analysis workflows

  • Develops and tests database code as required Provides practical assistance in the use of corporate database management systems to store and manipulate data

  • Designs, implements, manages, and administers databases (on cloud and on-prem), data warehouses, and data lakes

  • Develops and maintains complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and data models for analytics

  • and reporting purposes

  • Creates and upholds ETL and ELT pipelines using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Azure Synapses, Azure Data Factory, and other tools.

  • Transforms, and analyzes data from multiple sources to support business reporting and decision-making.

  • Creates and optimizes Power BI dashboards and reports

  • Performs database code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices

  • Co-develops database-related policies, standards, and technical guidelines

  • Implements new technologies and develops support infrastructures

  • Stays updated with the latest technologies and best practices in data engineering, DevOps, and cloud computing

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or university degree in computer science or management information systems or another relevant area
  • Minimum of three (3) years of proven experience as a Data Solutions Specialist or similar role, demonstrating expertise in data engineering, database administration, and cloud computing.
  • Microsoft certified in technologies related to data management considered an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to set and meet deadlines, think strategically, and develop and work with a team
  • Data platforms: MS SQL Server expert who is comfortable in a Microsoft-based environment, using SQL Server 2022 with AlwaysOn High Availability features, SSIS/SSAS, and Azure SQL
  • DevOps Tools: Experience with AzureDevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Data pipelines: Familiarity with ELT and ETL tools, including SSIS and Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics
  • Development tools: comfortable using Visual Studio, SSMS, R, Python, Powershell, Pyspark notebook, other languages, and tools relevant to the role’s duties
  • Hands-on experience with Azure cloud platform and MS Fabric

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $83,997 (minimum) - $109,087 (midpoint) - $134,177 (maximum).

The starting salary for this position will be determined considering the successful candidate’s relevant experience and education, salaries of other employees in the same salary range, market conditions and other relevant factors. Starting salaries are normally below the salary band midpoint.
