Senior Design Technician

Role and Objectives: The Senior Design Technician, under the Design Manager, is responsible for supporting the Project Teams in concept design, 3D modeling, and critical project elements to ensure the successful design of Mass Timber structures, Wall systems, and Modular projects. You will interpret the project plans and provide the structural design that maximizes the best possible use of our Glulam and Cross-Laminated Timber products while meeting the customers’ vision and objectives. Responsibilities: Policy Compliance: Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures. Strategic Planning: Assist in preparing strategy plans to develop assigned projects from IFC (Issued for Construction) to the Delivery stage. Daily Communication: Coordinate day-to-day activities with the Project Manager and the assigned team to ensure project quality, delivery, and timeline are met. Deliverable Coordination: Communicate all project deliverables with internal departments to maintain alignment and efficiency. Task Delegation: Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring optimal workflow and productivity. QA/QC Review: Review and verify Quality Assurance/Quality Control packages within the design team to uphold high standards. Provide insight comments and ensure the comments are implemented before sharing the final package with the Project Manager. Technical Guidance: Provide technical guidance and support to the design team, fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable environment. Training: Conduct training sessions for new team members to integrate them effectively into the team. Complex Modeling Assistance: Assist the team in modeling complex projects, leveraging expertise to overcome challenges. Leverage the latest updates in CADwork software: optimize the design workflow, implement streamlined processes that enhance team efficiency, and foster improved collaboration. Performance Reviews: Conduct project performance reviews for all team members, offering constructive feedback and development opportunities. External Model Review: Review external models, assist in panelizing, and ensure project specifications and standards compliance. Document Approval: Review and approve documents and models, ensuring they meet project requirements. Team Leadership: Lead teams of varying sizes, providing technical guidance and support to ensure project success. Organizational Skills: Demonstrate practical organizational and time management skills, thriving in a fast-paced, high-volume, and deadline-driven environment. Analytical Skills: Utilize strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address project challenges. Coordination and Collaboration: Coordinate with other trades to ensure seamless integration of design elements, facilitating effective communication and cooperation among team members to achieve project goals. Additional Duties: Perform other duties to support project and team objectives. Requirements: Skills: Communication: Effectively communicate ideas, gather insights, and analyze information. Streamline communication with the project manager to ensure smooth interactions with the team. Delegate tasks efficiently, ensuring team members clearly understand their responsibilities and deadlines. Collaboration: Work effectively with teams and foster cooperation. Problem-solving: Address challenges creatively and adapt to issues. Attention to Detail: Ensure accuracy in designs and maintain quality. Time Management: Prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects efficiently. Receptive to change – can adapt to changing circumstances. Leadership: Mentor junior team members and take the initiative. Adaptability: Stay updated with advancements and adjust to new tools. Educations: Diploma in Architectural Technology, Engineering Design Technology, or related field Courses or certifications in Mass Timber Construction and Design. Training in Building Information Modeling (BIM), mainly focusing on timber structures. Work experience: 5 years of experience as a design or BIM technician (mass timber focus preferred). 2 years of experience in project management (preferred) Software and tools: Excellent knowledge of computer programs, including MS Suite programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Bluebeam. Experience with CADwork, SolidWorks, Rhino, Revit, or other 3D software. Ability to read structural, architectural, and mechanical blueprints Working Conditions: Primarily seated desk work, occasional walking to/from other offices and production facilities, as needed. Ability to focus after interruptions from in-person, phone, or digital communications. Requires finger dexterity and the ability to focus on screen for prolonged periods. Personal Protective Equipment will be required when entering industrial facilities (e.g., hard hats, safety boots, etc.). Occasional exposure to hazards associated with manufacturing worksites. Compensation Package: Salary: $75,000.00 – $90,000.00 (Dependent on experience) Schedule: Monday – Friday Extended health benefits including health, dental, vision, travel, Health Spending Account and RRSP program.
