The duties and responsibilities of a Vocational Instructor include instructional and professional duties, professional development and service, and continuing excellence in one’s field.
Functions and Duties
Instructional duties may include any or all of the following: instructional (teaching assignments); course and program preparation and revision; student contact; student advising; evaluation and marking of student work and other functions related to instruction.
Professional duties may include any or all of the following: curriculum development, student registration and pre registration duties.
Professional development is activity intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence and technical competence in the area of professional or instructional expertise.
Service may include any or all of the following: school visitations; participation on OC committees; attendance at articulation meetings; representing OC at other function; administrative and other duties.
Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.

A valid BC Teacher’s Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment, equivalent or a Provincial Instructor Diploma is preferred, and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

Two years’ related teaching experience, preferably in an adult setting

Two years’ experience working with people with diverse abilities
Skills and Abilities
Candidates must be committed to a team approach, demonstrate good written and oral English skills and have good interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will have an exceptional teaching record with demonstrated learner-centred teaching philosophy. Successful applicants will be an integral part of the team that will help Okanagan College realize the promise of a world-class college. Candidates will be comfortable in a computerized environment and demonstrate knowledge of programs relevant to their discipline. The successful applicant will be able to encourage communication between students and faculty.
Preferred Qualifications
The Department of Accessible Education and Training is seeking a non-regular part-time vocational instructor to teach in the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 terms at the Kelowna campus.
The preferred candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or in a Social Services field; will have at least 2 years of related post-secondary experience working with adults with diverse abilities; and will have excellent time management and organizational skills. An understanding of student scheduling issues will be considered an asset.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate
Salary range $71,846 to $115,129 with normal starting salary between $78,872 and $85,897 annually, dependent on relevant education and experience.
