Context
The mission is to lead and ensure the safety level of railway systems in line with standards and best practices. In practical terms, the position involves structuring the safety approach, producing the associated analyses, and ensuring the compliance of technical solutions.
Missions/Main Duties
- Define the safety study process for the railway systems concerned, according to the phases of the V‑model in the safety lifecycle of the CENELEC EN 50126 railway standard.
- Apply analysis methods to assess system safety, based on applicable standards and regulations.
- Perform the preliminary hazard analysis for the railway systems and for the project’s overall railway system.
- Organize and lead multidisciplinary preliminary hazard analysis workshops.
- Define general safety requirements during the preliminary design phase.
- Define intrinsic system safety requirements during the preliminary design phase.
- Analyze and assess design compliance with the specified railway safety requirements.
- Define action plans to close outstanding items raised by the final client’s FDMS assessors.
- Validate the safety approach with the final client and their FDMS assessors.
- Participate in meetings and workshops of the design and integration team as a stakeholder.
- Update safety analyses following internal and external reviews.
- Interact with the various engineering disciplines involved in the project to ensure adherence to safety processes.
Profile/Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Computing, or Electronic Engineering
Years of experience: 10+ years of relevant experience conducting system safety studies. Experience in railways, tramways, metros, or railway infrastructure projects is an asset.
Technical Competencies
- Solid understanding of railway systems engineering, functional safety, and a systems approach applied to complex systems.
- Mastery of system safety management processes throughout the project lifecycle and a demonstrated track record in conducting safety studies.
- Knowledge of railway standards CENELEC EN 50126 / IEC 62278, EN 50129, as well as IEC 62279 and IEC 62425.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills, both in French and in English*
