Red Deer Polytechnic’s School of Health & Wellness is hiring multiple Practical Nurse Instructors for the upcoming academic year! As the healthcare sector continues to grow in central Alberta, there is a high demand for skilled nursing professionals. This is your opportunity to help shape the future of nursing in central Alberta!

We are currently accepting applications for Fulltime/Term-Certain (Sessional), and Part-Time Instructor positions for the Practical Nurse program for our next academic year, as well as for potential future openings. There are many ways to join RDP as an Instructor and have a positive impact on students by teaching lectures, labs, or clinical sections. We have the following 2 options. Apply today!

Fulltime/Term-Certain (Sessional):

  • Our Fulltime/Term-Certain Instructors work full-time for the academic year. We have 8.5- and 10.5-month contracts available with varying start and end dates.

This role is ideal for those looking to jump into teaching, build relationships with students and really experience what it feels like to be a nurse educator at RDP

Part-Time:

  • Our Part-Time Instructors have a variety of start and end dates throughout the academic year.
  • This role is ideal for those looking to teach for a short period of time.

While most courses will be offered at Red Deer Polytechnic main campus or online, instructors are also expected to travel to deliver courses at other locations as needed. These locations may include Camrose, Drumheller, Ponoka, Rocky Mountain House, Stettler, and Three Hills.

Position Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Practical Nursing, the successful candidate will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Teaching students in classroom, lab, and/or clinical settings with flexibility for both face-to-face and online course delivery
  • Creating a stimulating, effective, and learner-centered environment which includes preparing, reviewing and/or updating course material
  • Marking, grading, and evaluation of student work
  • Travel to rural sites for labs and clinical instruction
  • Providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance to students
  • Actively contributing and participating in program planning, curriculum review, project work, and scholarly activity
  • Participating in School and Polytechnic-wide initiatives and/or committees
  • Upholding the Professional Responsibilities of Faculty at RDP which are described within the Faculty Performance Policy
  • Demonstrating and promoting RDP organizational values and following RDP policies and practices.

Instructors uphold the professional responsibilities of faculty and demonstrate
RDP organizational values by following related policies and practices. They are supported by the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Scholarship and are provided with a comprehensive onboarding experience to help ensure their success.

Required Qualifications

  • Current registration with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) or a Registered Nurse with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)

  • Current Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider or Recertification Certificate, or willingness to obtain upon hire

  • Respiratory Fit Testing or willingness to obtain upon hire

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check in accordance with the Polytechnic’s Criminal Record Check policy

  • CurrentImmunizationas per RDP requirements

Benefits and Compensation Information

Sessional (Fulltime/Term Certain) Instructors:

  • Receive paid time off between Christmas and New Year general holidays as well as 8% of their gross salary in lieu of vacation.
  • Eligible for a comprehensive health and dental benefits package, including a Health Spending Account.
  • Eligible for individual professional development funding, additional free professional development opportunities offered through the institution, and tuition free classes.

Part-time Instructors:

  • Receive an additional 14% of their gross salary in lieu of benefits and vacation pay.

  • Part-time instructors are not eligible for comprehensive health and dental benefits packages.

  • Eligible for individual professional development funding, additional free professional development opportunities offered through the institution.
