Payroll Clerk - Temporary
Location: Southern Board Office - New Liskeard
Start date**:** September 4, 2025 until July 31, 2026 or return of absent employee
Vacancy Details: 0.5 FTE (part-time, 17.5 hours/week)
REQUIREMENTS:
-
Post Secondary Diploma in Business and/or Accounting or Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification with the National Payroll Institute.

Demonstrated knowledge of a payroll process in a computerized system, month and year-end procedures, account reconciliation, general ledger account coding within a large and complex chart of accounts, and audit processes.

Comprehensive knowledge of government legislation, related acts, and payroll regulations.
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including but not limited to the use of formulas, sorting, filtering, reordering of columns, and formatting for report preparation.

Proven mathematical and analytical skills and conscientious of details.

Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
-
Ability to work to strict timelines – often under pressure.
-
Experience in interpreting, implementing/adhering to multiple employee/union agreements.
-
Compliance with collective agreements, including self-funded leaves, supplemental employment benefit plans, top-up plans for maternity/parental leaves, vacation pay entitlement.

Experience in preparing Record of Employments both manually and electronically for individuals and group lay-offs, submit by upload file, and respond within prescribed timelines to any information requests.

Ability to calculate and reconcile monthly remittances for accounting and external agencies.

Ability to respond to payroll questions and inquiries from staff, employees, vendors, and outside agencies in a timely manner that adheres to privacy requirements.

Experience in OMERs and Teachers’ Pension Plan is an asset.

Demonstrates commitment to DSB1 strategic plan priorities and actions.

Maintain regular on-time attendance.
