FACULTY OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
The SPECTRAL Spatial Computing Research Centre is a research and development, industry liaison and training, student education unit that operates in close collaboration with regional, national and international collaborators from aerospace and other industries to support needs around spatial computing and mixed reality (including virtual and augmented reality). SPECTRAL is a research centre within the Faculty of Computer Science.
WHAT WE OFFER
Full-time | Term ending October 30, 2026 | Fredericton | On-Campus
Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 8:15 am - 4:30 pm | 36.25 hours per week
Additional Working Conditions:
- Ability to travel to and participate in relevant trade shows, meetings and relevant academic meetings to provide demonstrations, reports, or other services that benefit the clients and partners of the centre.
Salary Range: $66,113 - $85,944 per annum
YOUR FOCUS
Reporting to the Director of SPECTRAL, the HCI Developer supports the centre's research, development, and educational activities by contributing technical expertise, managing projects, and collaborating with students and team members. The role plays a key part in advancing human-computer interaction initiatives and ensuring the effective operation and growth of the centre's technological capabilities.
Plan and scope research projects in collaboration with the Director.
Conduct research and development alongside students and other Centre members.
Manage development projects using project management principles.
Contribute to coding and technical aspects of research projects and services.
Draft and contribute to research reports and academic papers developed within the Centre.
Supervise and support the work of student team members.
Assess student work and provide feedback aligned with educational goals.
Report to the Advisory Board on the scientific activities of the Centre.
Prepare reports for funding agencies, the university, and other relevant stakeholders.
Develop technical workplans for research and development projects.
Create lessons, tutorials, exercises, and other educational materials for Centre clients.
Monitor technological developments and share relevant insights with the SPECTRAL team.
Review research literature, patents, and industry reports to identify limitations of current technology and future opportunities.
Deliver technical demonstrations and support client-facing communications.
Collaborate with the Director and team members to revise and maintain a list of technological needs.
Develop equipment procurement plans in alignment with the project budget.
Liaise with vendors, ITS, and the Faculty of Computer Science System Support Division to ensure compliance with equipment acquisition policies.
Promote equipment security and proper use through communication and training with SPECTRAL staff.
Document and track the location and use of SPECTRAL equipment using appropriate tools and systems.
WHAT YOU BRING
Master's degree in Computer Science.
5 years in technical development positions in an information technology and/or R&D environment.
Experience in game development and/or development of virtual/augmented reality applications.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Additional Strengths:
Experience in academic projects that lead to publication would be considered an asset
Strong communication, writing and presentation skills
