About the role

Are you a mechanically minded problem-solver with a passion for marine engineering? Do you enjoy designing systems that power complex vessels and drive innovation in shipbuilding? We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team and contribute to the planning, construction, and delivery of world-class ships.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll design and plan the tools, processes, and systems needed to support efficient ship construction, repair, and commissioning. You’ll work independently within your scope, applying practical and theoretical knowledge to solve technical challenges and support production teams.

  • Manage planned and emergent mechanical work within your assigned scope.

  • Support internal and external stakeholders with technical expertise in mechanical systems.

  • Originate routine or low-complexity mechanical deliverables.

  • Review mechanical designs and documentation from external contributors.

  • Develop and document processes for recurring mechanical engineering tasks.

  • Assess risks and develop mitigation plans for mechanical systems and components.

  • Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in mechanical engineering practices.

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent; Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation preferred.

  • Strong knowledge and interest in naval or modern ship mechanical systems and construction methods.

  • Familiarity with relevant standards and regulations (e.g., ASME, ASTM, IMO, TC).

  • Understanding of scheduling and ability to manage deadlines and develop work plans.

  • Working knowledge of shipyard mechanical disciplines such as propulsion systems, HVAC, ship piping, mechanical arrangements, and producibility. Exposure to marine environments through academic study or work experience (e.g., co-op placements).

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
