K-9 Program (Home And Blended) Teacher Job Description

Role

The K–9 Program Teacher collaborates with families, staff, and administrators to deliver Ministry-aligned, personalized learning programs for students in Kindergarten–Grade 9.

Key Responsibilities

Support families of K–9 students. Maintain as current knowledge Maintain as current knowledge Maintain current knowledge of B.C. curriculum, resources, and learning technologies. Assess student learning using in-person and online methods (Seesaw). Communicate with students and parents at least weekly. Complete required administrative documentation (e.g., accurate student records and active dates).

Duties

Program Planning (Set-Up)

Develop a Student Learning Plan (SLP) collaboratively with parents (and students where appropriate) that includes: Learning goals (student and family) Curriculum content and strategies Assessment plan (formative and summative) Resources and budget (per student or per class as appropriate) Ensure access to SLPs, communication records, and work samples for families and administration. Establish learning standards collaboratively. Guide families in accessing learning resources and courses (online/blended). Finalize and sign SLPs with parents.

Administration

Review and update SLPs and budgets as needed. Inform administration of significant changes.

Communication

Maintain regular, supportive communication with students and parents: Weekly contact (primarily via Seesaw; also email, chat, video, or phone). Scheduled in-person or virtual meetings as needed. Document all educational communication and maintain an up-to-date communication log accessible to administration. Respond to inquiries within 24 working hours. Coordinate with other teachers involved in the student's program.

Instruction

Schedule and deliver individual instruction aligned with SLP goals. Organize group learning opportunities (e.g., lessons, workshops, field trips). Support access to learning resources and specialist services. Assist families with educational technology.

Assessment & Reporting

Implement ongoing formative assessment and summative evaluation. Maintain records of proficiency and work samples. Prepare reports in accordance with policy (three formal, two informal annually). Assess student progress against provincial standards. Support administration of required assessments (e.g., FSA).

Professional Responsibilities

Attend required training and participate in evaluation processes. Engage in ongoing professional development. Contribute to extracurricular activities on a regular basis.

Professional Judgment & Collaboration

Advise families on appropriate learning resources and pathways. Support transitions to online or blended programs (Grades 7–9). Assist in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) when required. Collaborate with colleagues and administration to address student needs. Report concerns or conflicts promptly. Reflect on and plan professional growth with administration.

Working Relationships

Reports to K–9 Administration. Collaborates with teachers and staff to support effective program delivery. Minimum Qualifications

Valid B.C. Teaching Certificate
