**Hours of Work:**80 hours bi-weekly
**Shift Work Required:**Some evenings and weekends may be required
Rate of Pay:$30.36 per hour (Rate in effect April 1, 2026)
The start date will follow the selection process.
**Characteristic Duties:**Under the general supervision of the Manager of Cemetery Services and the day to day direction of the Cemetery Sub-Foreperson.
- Assist with casket earth interments.
- Perform all cremation earth interments, casket entombments and cremation entombments in the mausoleum and niche walls.
- Assist with disinterment and transfer of remains as directed.
- Determine the correct location of an interment; ensure foundations and grave markers are installed properly and are in their correct locations.
- Ability to ensure all grave sites are prepared properly.
- Perform routine grave and grounds maintenance.
- Maintain turf by watering, top soiling, seeding, re-sodding and cutting.
- Operate various pieces of small equipment such as riding mowers and turf trucks, e.g. all terrain vehicles.
- Load and unload trucks as required.
- Transport personnel, materials, supplies, equipment and refuse.
- Perform routine labour work when not engaged in Utilityperson duties.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
- One (1) year of related cemetery experience an asset.
- Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, prepare work reports and perform routine maintenance on equipment when required.
- Proven ability to operate equipment used for turf maintenance and snow removal, e.g. all terrain vehicles with related attachments, one-ton 4x4 truck with plow and sander, tractors with grass cutting attachments.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of cemetery operations and burial procedures.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs individually and over 50 lbs with a two person lift.
- Demonstrate ability to work co-operatively, efficiently and effectively alongside peers and superiors.
- Ability to maintain pleasant and effective interpersonal relations under difficult circumstances.
- Ability to communicate effectively with CGS Employees, Funeral Home staff, suppliers and the public.
- Fork lift operator certification is an asset.
- Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
- Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
- May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's licence, and have an acceptable driving record.

Development opportunity rate of pay: $28.84 per hour (Rate in effect April 1, 2026). The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until the minimum qualifications have been met.
