The District of West Vancouver’s Transit Department has an immediate opening for a Permanent Full-Time Transit Supervisor.

Reporting to the Manager, Training, Safety & Compliance, the Transit Supervisor acts as a front-line supervisory contact for Transit Operators in the Transit system in the field and supports administrative and operational functions in the office. Duties will include:

  • Ensuring that the Transit system provides effective, safe and reliable services to the public;
  • Providing support, assistance and instruction to Transit Operators, as required;
  • Supervising Transit Operators, including participating in interviewing and conducting driving tests;
  • Formulating, recommending and advising on department operational practices and procedures, and rules and regulations;
  • Directing operational tasks and activities for Transit Operators out on the roads;
  • Supporting drivers at high-volume locations, by assisting passengers and defusing and resolving on-site issues;
  • Responding to public complaints;
  • Assisting with accident investigations;
  • Performing administrative duties, including creating reports, maintaining records to assist with training and guidance, and drafting communications regarding service changes and disruptions;
  • Liaising with other District departments and outside agencies; and,
  • Performing other duties as required.

The successful candidate will have experience in the Transit industry and the ability to supervise and lead a team of Transit Operators. The position requires demonstrated knowledge of a transit organization. Completion of a Grade 12 High School Diploma, supplemented by courses related to the work and supervisory experience in the Transit industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is a requirement of the position. The successful candidate will possess advanced computer skills and knowledge of MS Office as well as strong interpersonal skills, including coaching, communication, and conflict resolution.

Additional requirements for the position include a valid Class 2 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement for the Province of British Columbia.
