An excellent career opportunity exists in our Corporate & Specialty Risk department for a Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant in our downtown Toronto location. In this position, you will play a meaningful role in supporting our Underwriting teams that are driven every single day to think bigger, do better for our customers, and achieve desired results.
Your role is to grow as a valued team member while pursuing an underwriting career. You’ll support underwriters by organizing and administering policies and procedures related to risk analysis and selection. As part of an engaged underwriting services team, you’ll deliver timely, efficient solutions that enhance workflows and contribute to underwriting profitability. You’ll process commercial policies and transactions accurately and within your authority, for both new and renewal business. With strong financial literacy and communication skills, you’ll collaborate across teams, support broker relations, and assist in resolving broker billing discrepancies.
This will be a hybrid role reporting two days in office and three days remote work in the Toronto, First Canadian Place location.
What you’ll do
- Working both collaboratively and autonomously while ensuring deadlines are met as part of a remote team is critical to the success of this role.
- Triaging, logging and clearing large commercial submissions in collaboration with underwriters, processing declinatures, preparation of risk analysis reports including cross border documents and completing electronic filing of underwriting documents.
- Searching for information relevant to the underwriting function and providing letters of experience, insurance binders and other documents as required for underwriting and broker partners within delegated authority on behalf of the underwriter.
- Applying judgement, generate and review select underwriting reports and take required action based on authority.
- Responding and answering internal, external and broker service requests professionally and promptly including following up on information needed from brokers on behalf of underwriting.
- Data entry in RTM and SFDC systems while updating automated and manual tracking documents.
- Collaborating with internal Aviva/GCS stakeholders, automated and manual issuance of policy documents.
- Timely reconciliation of financial discrepancies working collaboratively and effectively with Aviva/GCS Stakeholders.
- Review account information, communicate changes with accounts and confirm policy information accurately and timely.
- Produce reports, information summaries and special projects as required.
What you’ll bring
- Post-secondary education including degree/diploma and/or accreditation complimented by relevant office experience is required.
- Ideal candidate has 2+ years’ commercial insurance experience in an administrative and support function with strong attention to detail and accuracy while executing above average time management skills in an underwriting environment.
- Reporting to the Manager, you will need to be confident and comfortable to manage a healthy level of autonomy while being accountable to various teams for the responsibilities of your role.
- Excellent technical aptitude with web and DOS based systems and databases; very strong proficiency and working knowledge of MS Teams, Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Outlook and OneNote is a must.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the capability to communicate at all levels (with internal and external partners) is meaningful to the role.
- Superior organization and time-management skills and able to manage workflow efficiently and accurately without constant supervision.
- Ability to be both adaptable, flexible and able to prioritize and re-prioritize work as needed while thriving in a high volume, fast paced environment is critical for success in this role.
