Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated onsite Quality Assurance Representative to join our North American Infrastructure group, full time, at rail car facilities in North Bay & Thunder Bay, Ontario.
In this role the ideal candidate is a quality assurance and/or engineering professional with excellent drawing and specification interpretation skills. They exhibit excellence in written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. AWS certification as a Weld Inspector and ASQ certification as a Quality Engineer and/or Quality Inspector is preferred. High school diploma with technical schooling or Associate Degree is required. Additional experience and successful levels of responsibility may be considered as a substitute for technical schooling.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Read and interpret drawings, procedures, standards and use precision measuring devices.
- Perform physical inspections of components and systems on rail vehicles, during in-process and at final inspection hold points.
- Verify completion of repairs and extra work during Production.
- Assess drawing and specification compliance of the quality and workmanship on completed railcars and truck frames.
- Provide clear and concise weekly reports on all QA activity to include all non-compliances against approved drawings, specifications and/or test procedures.
- Document issues with great accuracy to include photographs and clear technical descriptions.
- Perform and report on significant production, technical or quality challenges and track progress against production/delivery schedules.
- Provide monthly production summary reports & maintain trackers and action logs for change orders, extra work, and any issues identified through inspection.
- Investigate and assist in the resolution of quality challenges.
- Participate in design review meetings as necessary.
- Acquire/Coordinate assistance with Hatch Project Engineering staff to resolve problems or acquire technical input.
- Witness and verify vehicle & component level testing to determine that operation is in accordance with the Contract Specification and OEM requirements.
- Prepare and submit proper documentation upon completion of inspections & witnessed tests.
- Participate in quality assurance audits and daily/weekly quality meetings with the carbuilder QA Team.
You bring to the role:
- Knowledge of Industry Quality Management System requirements such as ISO 9001, ISO 22163 and the FTA QMS Guidelines
- An associate degree or a High School diploma with technical schooling
- A minimum of 5 years of vehicle production/overhaul experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, computer skills in general, and the ability to clearly and concisely report on issues.
- Recognized industry certifications, such as ASQ Certified Quality Inspector/Engineer/Auditor are desired
- Broad-based knowledge of manufacturing processes, and best workmanship practices.
- Broad-based knowledge of wire routing, crimping, & inspection of electromechanical assemblies
- Ability to work in accordance with approved specifications and drawings, changes, or deviations as necessary
The following skills/experience are a plus:
- Experience working with an operating railroad, a railcar builder or a railcar building industry inspection firm
- Experience with vehicle production oversight
