Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer, the incumbent is primarily responsible to provide the leadership, management, and administration of the Information Technology department. The incumbent provides comprehensive information and expert advice to senior leadership team on long range planning and strategic problem solving for digital strategies, application development and cyber security.
Duties and Responsibilities
The role requires both strategic leadership and day to day hands on management to create a multiyear vision of layered projects that build on each other. The Director must have the skills to acquire institutional support for the required budget and resources necessary to achieve multiyear objectives.
As a key enabler across the organization, the Director works collaboratively with academic and administrative divisions to support and advance divisional goals through effective technology solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the development and execution of a multi-year IT strategy aligned with institutional goals
- Provide oversight of all IT operations, projects, and services
- Develop and manage operating and capital budgets
- Manage major vendor contracts, software licensing agreements, and project resources
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in digital services, infrastructure, and cybersecurity
- Partner with academic and administrative leaders to support divisional objectives
- Ensure strong governance, risk management, and service performance
Areas of accountability include:
- Enterprise applications and development services
- Client technology support and academic lab environments
- Infrastructure, networks, and cloud services
- Cybersecurity and information risk management
- Audio-visual, media, radio, and television technology support
- IT Service Desk and integrated facilities technology
- Campus security technology
In addition, the incumbent has a number of direct College wide responsibilities;
- Participate in on-call escalation for critical technology issues
- Chair the IT Working Group Governance Committee
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across departments
- Engage regularly with student government on technology needs
Qualifications
- Completion of a 3 year diploma in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in IT management; experience in an educational environment is considered an asset
- Demonstrated expertise in project and program management
- ITIL certification and significant formal training in project management
- Proven ability to conduct scenario planning and align short- and long-term institutional objectives with functional technology programs
- Strong technical acumen supported by extensive experience, research capability, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent conflict resolution and relationship management skills, with the ability to lead diverse internal teams, manage external contractors, and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization
