Location ALS Environmental, Waterloo Reports to: ALS Waterloo Business Manager About the Position: The Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating assigned aspects of the ALS Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) for Waterloo and associated Service Centres. Specific Responsibilities: Work with HSE Manager, Canada Environmental and location managers to implement all new and existing ALS health and safety programs and annual HSE strategies Travel to Service Centres to maintain onsite compliance on a routine basis as established via Quarterly Inspection Requirements; Co-chair the Joint Health Safety and Environment Committee meetings; Coordinate and provide HSE orientation and ongoing Health and Safety training for staff at the Waterloo Hub; Ensure adequate First Aid management including supplies, reporting, resources, and scheduling in Waterloo Hub; Lead incident management including investigation, reporting, and follow up; Co-operate with Injury Management personnel as necessary; Coordinate and maintain contractor management induction, insurance, and documentation; Maintain and update SDS records stored on-site; Maintain emergency response procedures including scheduling drills and inspections; Coordinate and conduct exposure monitoring Complete employee fit tests and maintain the respiratory protection program Coordinate and conduct internal HSE training sessions (e.g. spills training, fire safety training) Coordinate external HSE training programs for all employees ( TDG, First Aid, etc.) Participate in and follow up on monthly site safety inspections and actions Enter all hazards and incidents in the Compliance Portal and ensure appropriate information and documents are included Ensure Compliance Portal is up to date with all required information Recommend corrective and preventative safety measures and appropriate safety equipment and materials to local management; Lead risk analysis and hazard identification processes for both safety and the environment; Write procedures, policies, and educational material for the local safety program; Coordinate and manage contractor management program including induction, insurance and documentation Assist HSE Manager, Canada Environmental in review and creation of HSE policies and procedures as assigned; Use correct protocols as defined in authorized procedures and schedules; Notify and coordinate hazardous sample receipt and analysis with laboratory, safety team, and contractors and disposal as required; Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Excellent English communication skills are mandatory (auditory, verbal, written, and reading); Strong organizational and leadership skills; Ability to speak in public and effectively present information to groups; Proven time management skills, including handling escalations and time-critical issues; Able to work independently and take initiative and work as part of a team; Able to stay current in an ever-changing environment Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required; Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), with competent computer skills; Ability to travel to other ALS locations within Ontario (e.g. service centres) on regular basis Required Qualifications: Technical Diploma or Degree in Health and Safety, or related discipline; Minimum of 1-year experience in a Laboratory environment is preferred; Valid unrestricted license for personal vehicle use applicable in the province/territory; Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 30 lbs on a regular basis and carry for short distances; Ability to complete a full shift with a combination of sitting, standing, and occasional walking, including periodic sedentary responsibilities; Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks; Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, etc. when required; You may be exposed to unpleasant odours; Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and may require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends. Our Benefits Include An estimated hourly pay of $30.55CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
