THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE:

Reporting to the VP Finance & IT the Director Grant Finance and Compliance will be responsible for providing strategic and operational financial leadership for all programs and projects. This role ensures strong financial planning, budgeting, cost recovery, grant compliance, financial analysis and reporting across all revenue and expense streams of SCC. The position partners closely with all other departments and Senior Management to ensure financial sustainability, transparency, and accountability while supporting effective program delivery.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Serve as the primary finance partner to Program Leadership, providing financial insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Lead program-level financial planning, forecasting, and scenario analysis.
  • Strengthen financial sustainability through effective cost recovery models and indirect cost allocation.
  • Contribute to organizational strategy by aligning program finances with long-term goals.

Grant Budgeting & Financial Management

  • Oversee development, review, and approval of program and project budgets.
  • Monitor budget performance, burn rates, and variances; provide timely analysis and recommendations.
  • Ensure accurate allocation of staff time, direct costs, and shared costs across projects.
  • Support Partnerships and Business Operations teams in budget revisions, reforecasting, budget realignment, no-cost extensions and donor approvals.

Grants & Donor Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with donor, contractual, and regulatory financial requirements.
  • Review financial sections of funding proposals, ensuring realistic budgeting and full cost recovery.
  • Oversee financial reporting to donors, including interim and final financial reports.
  • Act as finance lead during donor audits, project audits, and financial reviews.

Cost Recovery & Resource Optimization

  • Design, implement, and monitor cost recovery and level-of-effort methodologies.
  • Ensure indirect cost recovery aligns with organizational policies and donor rules.
  • Track staff utilization and support time allocation systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and optimize use of financial resources.

Financial Reporting & Controls

  • Produce regular program-level financial reports and dashboards for senior management and program teams.
  • Strengthen internal controls related to program expenditures and cost allocations.
  • Ensure accurate project accounting within the financial system.
  • Collaborate with Accounting to ensure timely month-end and year-end close for programs.

People Management

  • Lead assigned team/department providing strategic direction, coaching, and performance management while ensuring alignment with organizational values and policies.
  • Set clear team and individual performance expectations for productivity, quality, and success; providing direction and support as needed.
  • Oversee budget management, recruitment, change management, and career development while ensuring compliance, fostering a respectful, values-driven culture, and maintaining a safe and inclusive workplace
  • Ensure regular and transparent communication on strategy and policies, uphold SCC’s Code of Conduct, Policies, Leadership Charter, Reconciliation, Equity, Anti-Racism, Diversity, Inclusion (READI), Health and Safety standards, integrates Child Safeguarding practices, models competencies, and professional and ethical behavior.

Qualifications include (but are not limited to):

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive management experience
  • Experience in International Development, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO/INGO), or other not-for-profit sectors is required
  • Proven experience managing donor-funded or restricted funding (e.g., institutional donors, foundations, government grants).
  • Demonstrated experience with cost recovery, indirect cost allocation, and grant compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Familiarity with grant regulations and donor compliance requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, analytical tools, e.g. Power BI and financial management systems is required.
  • Experience with time allocation or level-of-effort systems is an asset.
  • People management experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Advanced communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills for diverse audiences to build strong working relationships across cultural and organizational settings, both internally and externally. French/Spanish/Arabic language skills is an asset.
  • Demonstrated project management experience for task execution of assigned objectives supported by proficiency with MS Office tools and relevant technologies. Ability to work under pressure within tight timelines to achieve SCC objectives.
  • Displays analytical and problem-solving skills to support initiatives with demonstrated adaptability to support change management for successful task implementation.
  • Applies judgment and make sound decisions that are accountable, justifiable, and in adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Considers organizational strategy and thinks creatively to support innovative initiatives and collaborations that deliver benefits for the children and families we serve.
  • Ability to occasionally travel locally, nationally and internationally (less than 10%) as required.

WHAT WE OFFER

The salary range for this position is between $118,530.13 to $142,235.71 CAD depending on skills and experience. In addition to this, our employees will have the following package of additional benefits:
