Job Description
Is taking, breaking down, and rebuilding characters your thing? Do you enjoy playing with digital puppets (no judgements)? Does animating and bringing dimensionality 2D character rev your creative engine? If this sounds like you, then you may be a perfect candidate to join our team at Brown Bag Toronto!
The Rigging Artist will be responsible for taking vector art created by the design team and distributing it to working rigged hierarchy in Harmony, as well as adjusting the hierarchy to fit character specific requirements. In layperson’s terms, that means being involved in one of the most crucial elements of animation. This individual must be able to follow established rigging conventions, style, and production specific template layouts, pleasing character designers while working under tight production deadlines. If you can manage all of this, then you, mystery applicant, are exactly who we are looking for! We are looking for an experienced Rigger with intermediate to senior level experience as a must have.

To produce rigged production assets for a 2D animated property, created in the correct design style, functionality, and scale.

Rigged Characters and props that are functional for the Animation department
Measurements: How we measure it

Meets creative and technical requirements, within stylistic guidelines and schedules.

2D Rigging Supervisor and Animation Director approvals.
Key Responsibilities
What you are regularly responsible for doing:
-
Rigging assets in Harmony and making sure it matches the approved Design.
-
Working closely with Rigging Supervisor to find the best solutions for technical challenges.

Making sure the element and palette library are clean before sending it forward for Supervisor approval.

Making updates and revisions on the Rigs on as needed basis.
-
Rigging special poses and character redresses.
-
Communicating any creative or technical issues that hinders productivity in the rigging department.

Reviewing related shots or scenes to make efficient rigs.

Following Naming Convention and Rig Template.
Key Requirements
Requirements for the role: Things that help you do your job (what is essential and what is desirable)
- Knowledge:
o Strong knowledge and understanding of Animation fundamentals.
o Understanding of body mechanics and human anatomy.
o Understanding of how objects operate and move.
o Understanding of how to review leicas.
- Experience:
o 2D Rigging experience on an animated Production (desirable)
o Strong Rigging Portfolio for recent graduates.
- Technical skills:
o Expert in Toon Boom Harmony with basic knowledge of Photoshop.
o Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office.
o Experience using ShotGrid is a bonus.
