About Champak Champak is one of India’s most loved children’s magazines, published by the Delhi Press Group. A significant part of Champak’s Hindi editions is created by translating and adapting English content into child-friendly Hindi. We are looking for a Hindi Production Editor who can personally handle translation, ensure language quality, and manage the complete print production process.
Role Overview The Hindi Production Editor will be responsible for translating English editorial content into Hindi, editing and proofreading Hindi pages, and owning the end-to-end print production of Hindi editions. The role requires excellent command over both English and Hindi, strong language sensibility for children’s content, and hands-on experience with print workflows.
Key Responsibilities Translation & Language Adaptation
- Translate English stories, articles, puzzles, and activities into Hindi.
- Adapt content to ensure meaning, tone, humour, and values are retained.
- Rewrite content where required to make it simple, engaging, and age-appropriate for children.
- Ensure consistency in terminology, names, and transliteration.
Hindi Editing & Proofreading
- Edit and proofread self-translated and externally translated content.
- Ensure grammatical accuracy, readability, and cultural sensitivity.
- Maintain standard, child-friendly Hindi across all pages.
End-to-End Print Production
- Own the complete Hindi print production process from manuscript to press.
- Plan editorial schedules, page flow, and deadlines.
- Ensure all pages are print-ready and approved as per production timelines.
Design, Layout & Pagination Coordination
- Work closely with designers on Hindi layouts, fonts, matras, spacing, and pagination.
- Check text flow, hyphenation, and visual balance.
- Ensure correct placement of illustrations, captions, and credits.
Proofing & Final Print Clearance
- Conduct multiple proof stages and ensure error-free final pages.
- Approve final layouts and coordinate last-minute corrections.
- Clear pages for printing and dispatch.
Coordination & Project Work
- Coordinate with editorial, design, and production teams.
- Support special Hindi editorial projects such as special issues, compilations, and activity books.
- Contribute to improving translation quality, workflows, and style guidelines.
Qualifications & Skills
- Master’s degree in Hindi, English, Journalism, Mass Communication, or related fields.
- 5–8 years of experience in Hindi translation, editing, and print production.
- Excellent command of both Hindi and English.
- Proven experience in English-to-Hindi translation, preferably for children’s content.
- Strong understanding of print production and pre-press processes.
- Proficiency in InDesign, MS Word, Indica and Google Workspace.
- Ability to manage tight deadlines and high accuracy requirements.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Has independently handled translation + Hindi print production end-to-end.
- Strong language sensitivity for children aged 5–12.
- Detail-oriented, disciplined, and process-driven.
- Experience in children’s publishing is highly preferred.

The Caravan, an English literary magazine, was launched in the following year and became an immediate success, enjoying wide readership in the country. In 1945, Sarita, a Hindi monthly magazine was launched.
