About The Position WorkPac is seeking a Specialist Safety professional to join our clients team at their GEMCO operations. This role will work closely with departments to integrate safety into everyday operations, coach leaders and employees, and drive improvements in safety performance. The position is offered on a 7:7 roster, 12 hour days, flying in and out of Darwin or Cairns.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Monitoring the effectiveness of safety management systems and identifying improvement opportunities
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Building strong stakeholder relationships to embed safety systems into daily operations
- Providing specialist advice, tools, training, and coaching to leaders and HSRs
- Facilitating and guiding incident investigations (ICAM) and corrective actions
- Supporting hazard identification, audits, reporting, and action closure processes
- Participating in safety risk assessments (WRACs) and shutdown support activities
- Promoting a positive safety culture through communication, leadership engagement, and training
- Preparing safety reports, committee materials, and assurance reviews
Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum Certificate IV in Safety or Occupational Health (Diploma/Degree preferred)
- ICAM training or equivalent investigation methodology
- Minimum 3 years experience in mining, heavy industry, or similar operational environment
- Strong knowledge of safety management systems and HSEQ practices
- Proven ability to influence and coach stakeholders at all levels
- Strong communication, facilitation, and presentation skills
- Demonstrated problem-solving and root cause analysis capability
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage competing priorities independently
- Current drivers licence
