Overview
In this position, you will apply your technical knowledge to evaluate existing buildings and assist with design solutions for the complex and unique problems of our clients. Projects will include a mix of residential, multi-family, and commercial projects, with an emphasis on rehabilitation or repair of damage from fire, wind, flood, and impacts, as well as adaptive reuse of older buildings, and enhancements to existing facilities to accommodate changes in use and implementation of equipment and machinery. You must be able to manage several projects simultaneously and be detail orientated. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist in performing building condition assessments of multi-residential, commercial, and institutional facilities.
- Prepare reports and reserve fund studies.
- Perform field investigation work and the diagnosis of building problems required to design exterior envelope remediation including exterior wall, fenestration, roof and/or structural remediation.
- Assist in performing leak investigations of all aspects of building envelopes, roofs, walls, windows, and foundations.
- Assist in carrying out field review of construction work in progress on both new and restoration projects and report on progress and the contractor’s adherence to contract documentation.
- Measuring of building dimensions and quantifying on site and from drawings.
- Interpretation and hand drawing of in-situ construction details.
- Light AutoCAD support and specification writing.
- Support the team with project management duties and project administration tasks.
- Other assigned duties and tasks, as required.
Required Experience, Education and Certifications
- Completion of an engineering or engineering technology program with a focus on Building Science, Civil and/or Structural Engineering.
- Relevant project coordination experience in a related capacity.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge in areas related to building science such as thermodynamics, heat transfer, and psychometrics.
- Understanding of building construction, including methods, materials, and systems is required.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail, specifically in accuracy of calculations and completeness of data collection and notation.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Self-motivating and able to multi-task.
- Ability to act with business integrity and professionalism.
- Please be aware that we are only considering candidates with experience in consulting, specifically in writing Building Condition Assessments (BCAs) and specifications for building envelope projects, as well as minor design/specification projects.
Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements
Physical Demands – Work is performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e. industrial, construction and/or residential sites). The employee is frequently required to stand, walk on sloped and flat roofs, sit, climb ladders, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to client sites or job sites. Working at heights, including accessing buildings by ladders, swing stages, and mechanical lifts will be necessary. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary. The employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, preparing drawings and written reports.
Overtime – There will be some occasions where overtime (or working after normal business hours) will be required to meet the demands of the position.
Travel – This position requires up to 60% local area travel. Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
