Job Summary
Reporting to the Trade Supervisor and/or Manager, the incumbent is responsible for carpentry related work.
Key Responsibilities
-
Performs general maintenance and renovations work pertaining to Carpenter’s trade
-
Installs floors, walls, ceilings, shelves, partitions, doors, glass, hardware, formwork, etc., and associated materials
-
Constructs and installs custom cabinetry and millwork
-
Erects, dismantles and works from various types of scaffolding and lifts
-
Performs all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulations
-
Maintains a clean work environment
-
Performs other duties as required
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
-
Valid Carpenter certificate of qualification recognised by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration
-
Completion of certified trades school program preferred
-
Five years recent and related journey person experience in related construction and/or maintenance in a commercial or institutional environment
-
Cabinet construction and installation experience preferred
-
Familiar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety act, as well as University and government rules and regulations
-
Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints
-
Ability to take direction
-
Proven ability to direct others in foreperson capacity
-
Ability to work at heights
-
Computer literacy an asset
-
Good communication and organization skills
-
Reliable and punctual
-
Knowledge of tools of the trade
-
Must be willing and able to work overtime and respond to after-hours calls as required
-
General safety, Fall Protection and WHMIS training an asset
