Your Opportunity:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a Registered Nurse who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in nursing. Reporting to the Manager of Quality, Safety & Education, the CNS for Quality and Safety will work within the Stollery Professional Practice Office supporting “Safest Together”. This initiative encompasses activities guided by the Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) Network helping to inform pediatric safety and quality. The incumbent leads, coordinates, and supports site-wide safety and quality improvement initiatives. They promote a strong safety culture through orientation, education, and leadership guidance while serving as a resource for all departments. The role collaborates with teams in process improvement, project management, data analytics, and education. Primary responsibility includes developing and maintaining educational programs, practice support, and standardized quality and safety initiatives. Using adult learning principles, they implement innovative strategies to advance safety culture and support high-quality, safe patient care across teams. Leadership is an essential part of this CNS role. The ability to influence and provide guidance in clinical practice to improve quality care, support standardization of policy, procedures, protocols, and technology while helping to manage site wide resources is required. The CNS collaborates and helps guide and support best practice by leading and participating in committees. This challenging role will require you to develop innovative and creative strategies to advance best practice principles and quality improvement strategies to successfully manage safe patient care delivery amongst various teams. Successful individual should have demonstrated progressive leadership, team building, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills and abilities.

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), you will provide an advanced level of nursing practice that maximizes the application of in-depth nursing theory, knowledge and skills in meeting the complex health care needs of individuals, families and communities. You will function as a nursing practice leader, consultant, expert practitioner, educator and researcher within a clinical specialty area. You will balance various roles depending upon the needs of the patient population and the healthcare team, collaborating on the provision of holistic and comprehensive care. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Classification: Clinical Nurse Spec (2022.75) Union: United Nurses of Alberta Unit and Program: Quality and Safety Site Support Primary Location: Stollery Children's Hospital Location Details: As Per Location Multi-Site: At (UNA only) FTE: 1.00 Posting End Date: 03-JUL-2026 Employee Class: Regular Full Time Date Available: 13-JUL-2026 Hours per Shift: 7.75 Length of Shift in weeks: 4 Shifts per cycle: 20 Shift Pattern: Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends, On Call Days Off: Saturday/Sunday Minimum Salary: $51.19 Maximum Salary: $70.05 Vehicle Requirement: Not Applicable
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Nursing. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years current acute care pediatric experience. Ability to effectively manage team culture is essential in this position. Teaching experience in small and large group settings utilizing knowledge of adult learning principles, program evaluation approaches and outcomes measurements. Knowledge of research design, statistical analysis, and quality improvement methodologies within system level thinking. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team; able to provide conflict resolution and utilize change management skills. Highly developed organizational skills and problem-solving abilities required. Strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Advanced computer skills including experience in Microsoft Office. Recognition of the value of working within a Family Centered Care philosophy will be expected.
Preferred Qualifications:
AHS Prosci certification and AIW training, Advanced Green Belt certification preferred. Only applicants who submit a resume will be considered.
