Salary Range: $93,015 - $139,502 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Status: Permanent Full-time

Position Summary Reporting to the Senior Manager, Payroll Compliance & Controls, with day-to-day operational oversight from the Payroll Operations Manager, the Payroll Supervisor oversees end-to-end payroll processing of the Employee Records & Payroll team, ensuring accurate and timely employee payments, and maintaining compliance with statutory and labor regulations. This role provides leadership and direction to a team of 22 Employee Records & Payroll Administrators. This will be achieved by establishing and maintaining accuracy in employee life cycle changes, and adhering to a schedule of payroll runs that meets legal, contractual and administrative guidelines. In addition to providing leadership and guidance to the ERC & Payroll Team, regarding technical and procedural issues, the Supervisor will also act as the point of contact for team members to help answer questions and resolve concerns or issues in accordance with UHNs principles and values.

Duties

  • Fostering an atmosphere where exceptional customer service is the standard
  • Modeling and encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in service delivery
  • Collaboration with Payroll Operations Manager on day to day operations
  • Collaborate with partnering departments to ensure process and adherence to all employee related transactions and reporting for all areas impacting employee experience
  • Proactive measures to ensure validity, accuracy and best practice for system outputs
  • Responsible for the accuracy of essential payroll reconciliations and remittances, including all CRA and Employer/Employee deductions
  • Ensure precise and punctual submission of annual filings and reports to CRA, including T4 and T4As, as well as HOOPP
  • Responds to external agencies such as Union, CRA, Family Support, garnishment, etc.
  • Record payroll journals, monthly vacation/stat accruals, and days' accrual in the General Ledger.
  • Identify and promptly resolve payroll discrepancies, calculating manual adjustments as needed.
  • Mentor and coach ERC & Payroll Team, including submission of timesheet and vacation requests while balancing workload and deliverables of the Team
  • Provide analysis for ad hoc reports for external stakeholders, including MOH, OHA, and unions
  • Oversees and ensures timely distribution of time sheets, pay statements and paid hours report to appropriate Hospital personnel
  • Assists in establishing appropriate procedures regarding the request for information from employees, managers and external areas

Qualifications Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related payroll experience, including supervisory experience within a large, complex, unionized and non-unionized organization.
  • Experience with in-house payroll administration is required. Exposure to health care would be an asset.
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of Federal and Provincial payroll legislation and compliance in Canada.
  • Demonstrated database and spreadsheet software experience at an advanced level.
  • Post Secondary certificate in Payroll, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related discipline. Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) preferred
  • Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures, including account reconciliations
  • Strong Excel Skills (i.e. pivot tables; xlookup/vlookup, sumif, etc.)
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on accuracy and detail
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated experience building a payroll function that promote best practices and outstanding client service in a complex, fast-paced and dynamic environment.
