Job Title: General Foreperson Reporting to the Superintendent, the General Foreperson will provide strong on‑site leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality execution of all project activities. This role oversees multiple Field Supervisors, lead hands, and subcontractors while driving a culture of safety, accountability, and team performance. The General Foreperson will coordinate daily operations, manage resources, and maintain alignment with project schedules, budgets, and technical requirements. With a focus on proactive planning and problem‑solving, this position ensures work is completed to design specifications and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities (including But Not Limited To) Operational Leadership & Workforce Management
- Direct, supervise, and coordinate Field Supervisors, Lead Hands, and subcontractors to ensure efficient work execution.
- Foster a strong safety culture and enforce compliance with mine site safety and environmental standards.
- Conduct daily pre-shift meetings, hazard assessments, and ensure timely corrective actions.
- Ensure tasks are completed in alignment with project schedules and contractual requirements.
- Track and report on production quantities, resource allocation, and equipment usage.
- Maintain awareness of project budgets, cost controls, and potential overruns.
Construction Oversight & Quality Management
- Interpret drawings and specifications, ensuring crews execute work by design.
- Oversee largescale earthworks, tailings dam construction, and related civil works.
- Ensure quality control standards are met across all phases of construction.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and Engineers to resolve technical and logistical challenges.
Reporting & Communication
- Prepare and submit detailed daily and weekly progress reports on manpower, equipment, and material usage.
- Communicate effectively with management, engineering teams, and client representatives.
- Utilize digital tools for scheduling, reporting, and documentation.
Additional Duties
- Perform all other duties as reasonably assigned
The Ideal Candidate Education / Qualifications
- Must possess BC Mine Shift Boss Ticket
- Must possess First Aid Certification
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
Experience / Skills
- 15+ years in mining, civil construction, or large earthworks
- 10+ years in supervisory roles, including managing multiple crews
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings
- Budget awareness and cost control experience
- Advanced knowledge of mine site operations and safety protocols
- Detail oriented with excessive attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Exhibits a high degree of responsibility for confidential matters
- Effective team player willing to help wherever is needed
- Strong interpersonal and reasoning skills, with proven problem-solving abilities
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as with others
Work Location & Conditions This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.
The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.
There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
Compensation The expected annual salary range for this position is CAD 125,000-150,000, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines, and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
