About the role

Our Climbing Gym staff enrich the community as part of an energetic, diverse and dedicated climbing team committed to promoting the sport and culture of climbing in our community. This position will require you to work the following two positions based on what is needed throughout the day:

Position Overview: The Climbing Control Desk Agent is a front-line position responsible for welcoming and supporting members and guests as they access the Elevation Place Climbing Gym. This role ensures participants are properly checked in for their climbing experience or registered program, oriented to the facility, and equipped with appropriate rental gear, such as shoes and harnesses, where required. The position plays a key role in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment by providing excellent customer service, monitoring adherence to climbing standards, and supporting daily operations. Through accurate administration, safety awareness, and collaborative teamwork, the role contributes to a positive experience for participants and supports the Town’s commitment to enhancing community wellness and quality of life for all interest holders. Core Accountabilities Customer Service and Facility Experience Welcome members and guests, creating a positive, inclusive, and professional first impression Verify waivers, orientations, and eligibility, and complete check-in for climbing access or programs Orient participants to the facility, equipment, and expectations for safe participation Issue and fit rental equipment (e.g., shoes, harnesses) to ensure proper use and comfort Provide accurate information about programs, services, and bookings Resolve customer concerns or escalate appropriately to maintain service quality Climbing Operations and Safety Monitoring Supervise the climbing floor to ensure safe use of equipment and adherence to established protocols Conduct belay tests and basic orientations to support safe participation Identify, address, and report unsafe conditions, behaviours, or equipment concerns Respond to incidents and provide first aid as required following established procedures Promote and ensure the health and safety of co-workers, members, guests, and volunteers Program and Service Support Assist with the delivery of registered programs, drop-in services, and group bookings Support instructors to ensure smooth and engaging program delivery Contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environment during climbing activities Prepare and maintain equipment and spaces to support program readiness Administration and Systems Process admissions, rentals, and registrations accurately using systems such as Intelligenz and Dayforce Maintain accurate records in alignment with Town policies, including waivers and participation data Ensure documentation is current, complete, and compliant with confidentiality requirements Maintain general knowledge of Town of Canmore services to support participant inquiries Follow established administrative, safety, and customer service procedures Teamwork and Continuous Improvement Participate in team meetings and share information to support effective operations Contribute to a respectful, collaborative, and service-focused team environment Follow standard operating procedures and support consistency in service delivery Identify opportunities to improve processes and enhance the participant experience Actively participate in training and professional development related to climbing, recreation, and customer service Health and Safety Fulfill worker responsibilities under the Town of Canmore Health & Safety Directive Participate in the Town's health and safety program, following all safety legislation, policies, and procedures Perform work safely and protect the health and safety of self and others Refrain from causing or participating in harassment or violence Report incidents, injuries, and unsafe or harmful worksites, acts, or conditions Key Competencies Takes initiative to deliver timely, effective, and appropriate service that meets the needs of clients and interest holders. Fosters a learning environment where both self and others are open and empowered to grow through experience, feedback, and reflection Exercises discernment by choosing actions that are aligned with organizational purpose and values, considering impacts across the whole system, and making courageous, well-reasoned decisions in the absence of clear precedent or detailed guidance Education, Experience & Certifications Required Standard First Aid and CPR certification ACMG Climbing Gym Instructor certification (Level 1 or higher) or actively pursuing Demonstrated knowledge of recreational climbing best practices and techniques Ability to follow climbing safety standards and stay current with evolving industry practices Strong customer service and communication skills in a public-facing environment Ability to safely supervise participants and manage dynamic or high-traffic environments Proficiency using computer systems and applications (e.g., MS Office, Intelligenz, Dayforce) Ability to maintain accurate records and adhere to confidentiality, regulations, and policies Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends Knowledge of and commitment to Alberta Occupational Health and Safety requirements Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask Commitment to inclusion, respect, and positive service delivery Preferred / Asset 1–2 years of experience in a climbing gym or recreation environment Additional ACMG or climbing-related certifications Hi-Five or similar customer service or children's program training Experience supporting recreation programs or group bookings Experience with recreation registration or scheduling systems Ongoing training in climbing instruction, recreation, or administration Salary & Benefits: Climbing Gym Control Desk: Pay rate is $20.66+ /hour commensurate with skills, certifications, and experience. ACMG certifications increase the base rate. Climbing Instructor: Pay rate is $24.81+ /hour commensurate with skills, certifications, and experience.
