About the role
ABOUT THE ROLE
The position of Water Facility Operator is a hands-on position involving the operation and maintenance of the Water Facility System consisting of the following major components: Source Water Area, Treatment, and Distribution. The incumbent will be responsible under the supervision of the Water Facility Supervisor for the effective and efficient operation of the water facility in accordance with the facility’s operation manual and Approval to Operate.
Education:
- Successful completion of a two-year technical program related to water treatment is required. An equivalent combination of related education and experience in a water treatment and or distribution environment may be considered.
Experience:

Previous experience related to the position; experience in the operation of a municipal potable water facility is preferred
-
Related experience in a municipal field or mechanical/electrical repair/maintenance field is an asset.

A combination of education and experience may also be considered
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

Class I (or higher) certification in Water Treatment and/or Distribution is preferred

OIT Certification is required.

Must have the ability to obtain Class III Certification in Water Treatment and Class II Certification in Water Distribution from Nova Scotia Environment.

Must possess a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s license.
Essential Skills:
-
Familiarity with water quality testing procedures and equipment.

Familiarity with Nova Scotia Health and Safety standards, including chemical handling and storage, personal protection requirements and lockout procedures.

Experience safely operating and maintaining pumps, motors, valves, metering control and chemical feed systems, electrical and plumbing systems and equipment.

Experience using hand tools, measurement instruments and monitoring automated systems.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Permanent, unionized position
- Wages: $29.65- $34.96, depending on certifications. The Town of Bridgewater offers a competitive benefits package including Defined Benefit pension plan (PSSP).
- Once trained and certified, the incumbent will participate in the on-call rotation
- Full-time (40 hours per week)
The Town of Bridgewater compensates Operators based on their level of certification, in accordance with the Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 1092:
