Seasonal Gardener, Halifax
(May 1, 2026– October 31, 2026)
Killam Apartment REIT, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is one of Canada's largest residential real estate investment trusts, owning, operating, and developing a $5.3 billion portfolio of apartments and manufactured home communities. Killam's strategy to drive value and profitability focuses on three priorities: (1) increase earnings from the existing portfolio; (2) expand the portfolio and diversify geographically through accretive acquisitions, targeting newer properties and dispositions of non-core assets; and (3) develop high-quality properties in its core markets.
We currently have an opportunity available on our team for an energetic Gardener to assist in the landscape maintenance of our Halifax properties, as well as carrying out small landscape capital projects.
This seasonal position is full-time Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm, starting May 1, 2026 and will end on or before October 31, 2026.
What you will do:
- Landscape maintenance services required at downtown properties on a weekly schedule (including weeding small beds, cleaning litter, and debris from parking lots, trimming back shrubs and branches encroaching on buildings/parking, etc.);
- Safely operate and maintain landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, edgers, and hedge trimmers;
- Collaborate with team members and take initiative to complete necessary gardening projects and landscaping tasks to improve the overall appearance and curb appeal of various Killam properties;
- Identify and care for a wide variety of trees, shrubs, flowers, and grasses, using proper techniques such as pruning, deadheading, and dividing.
Who you are:
- Previous experience in landscaping or horticulture in a similar role is an asset;
- Ability to work as a small team under minimal supervision;
- Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive a pickup truck (with trailer would be an asset);
- Must have a personal smartphone that allows the Yeti app to be downloaded to record personal timesheets;
- Skilled and knowledgeable horticultural professional with a strong blend of technical expertise and hands-on maintenance experience;
- Able to recognize and care for a wide variety of trees, shrubs, flowers, and grasses;
- Committed to delivering precise planting and maintenance work that achieves a clean, professional appearance;
- Physically capable, safety-conscious, and able to perform demanding outdoor tasks efficiently in a variety of weather conditions.
