Summary
Under the direction of the Team Leader/Field Leader, and/or the Client, the Process Operator (Utility Operator) is to provide specialized knowledge and skills to independently devise new/modified methods and approaches or develop new/modified processes, to resolve non routine needs and/or problems. The incumbent is to conduct all activities in a manner that supports the mission the vision, and values of Fort McKay Group of Companies LP.
This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/pre-access testing.
Key Focus
- Utilize specialized knowledge and skills to independently devise new/modified methods and approaches or develop new/modified processes, to resolve non routine needs or problems.
- Intervene directly with the shift organization and the business team accountable on any issues that are not in compliance or have the potential of non-compliance.
- Complete regular field checks to monitor plant performance. - Troubleshoot and identify equipment issues of the operating unit.
- Complete equipment start-up and shutdown activities.
- Prepare and return equipment for maintenance.
- Complete equipment isolations and de-isolations.
- Develop or participate in the development of safe work plans as required.
- Monitor all activities in area of responsibility for compliance with safe work permits.
- Accountable for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all equipment in their assigned area or post.
- Maintain complete understanding of area procedures and equipment standards; generate or revise documentation.
- Report deficiencies to the Control Room Operator and Shift Team Leader promptly.
- Conduct structured rounds and monitoring checks according to PSWS-005 Operator Care and PSWS-012 COSO Structured Rounds.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Completion of a High School Diploma, or a GED equivalent is required.
- A valid Class 5 License (or equivalent) is required, along with a satisfactory 3-year Drivers Abstract.
- Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are required.
- Experience in SAP and/or Ceridian Dayforce is considered an asset.Proficiency with INX or similar safety/operational reporting systems.
- Proficiency in operating heavy haulers, including but not limited to Caterpillar 797 and Caterpillar 793
- 7+ years of experience in mining, tailings, or heavy industrial operations.
- Failiarity with mining operations and strong understanding of safety protocols in heavy equipent operations.
- Prevent freezing of lines and equipment by verifying insulation, heat tracing, and heaters, especially in freezing conditions.
- Flag and control areas affected by steam or condensate leaks — ensuring compliance with noise and burn protection controls..
- Ability to work independently and multitask, as well as work effectively in a team environment, adapting to changing client/work scope requirements.
- Monitor and report the area for leaks (hydrocarbon, water, steam, chemical); repair if possible or report for action through Enablon Even and notify Shift Team Lead.
- Assist in peer training, testing, and certification.
- Must have strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. Able to identify alternative solutions, consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
- Excellent time management skills with an ability to manage conflicting priorities.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Effective communicator and displays strong and professional interpersonal skills, including excellent oral, written communication, and listening skills.
- Speaks clearly and persuasively in all situations, writes clearly and informatively.
This is a full time position located north of Fort McMurray, AB on Syncrude Aurora site.
**Shift schedule:**6 on, 6 off, days and nights are required; 12 hour shifts
**NOTE:**Flights and Camp accommodation are NOT provided.
