About the role
The Durham District School Board acknowledges that many Indigenous Nations have longstanding relationships, both historic and modern, with the territories upon which our school board and schools are located. Today, this area is home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island. We acknowledge that the Durham Region forms a part of the traditional and treaty territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, the Mississauga Peoples and the treaty territory of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation. It is on these ancestral and treaty lands that we teach, live and learn.

Responsible for the efficient operation of the school office under the direction of the Principal, ensuring effective communication with staff, students, and parents, and maintaining safety, security, and accurate records.
Key Responsibilities
- School Operations Support: Assist the Principal with daily school operations, including staff communication, hiring processes, statistical reporting, event planning, and procurement.
- Student Safety & Records: Manage student registration, safety protocols, absentee tracking, and health-related communications; maintain accurate student records.
- Accounting & Budgeting: Handle school funds, prepare reports, manage petty cash, and oversee financial transactions.
- Communication & Liaison: Act as the central contact for phone calls, emails, and visitors; coordinate with various departments and external organizations.
- Staff Supervision: Train and oversee office staff, students, and volunteers.
- Clerical Duties: Maintain school files, distribute mail, photocopy materials, manage inventory, and process paperwork.
Qualifications
- Secondary School Diploma with five years of related experience or equivalent.
- Proficiency in word processing, accounting, and record-keeping (Filemaker Pro and Powerschool knowledge preferred).
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license.
Equipment Used
- Computer, printer, telephone, photocopier, public address system, fax machine, and motor vehicle.
Additional Information
- This is a 35 hour per week, 10 month, 2 week position.
