About the role

Fred Welsh Ltd. team in conjunction with Trotter & Morton Ltd. (FWL-TM) is looking for a motivated individual to join our team in Duncan British Columbia to assist on the Cowichan Hospital Redevelopment Project. The Mechanical Co-Op Student will be working directly for the Project Manager, the student will assist the Project Managers and Superintendents in day-to-day duties of project administration and further their learning of mechanical systems and project close out.

This position will have a 6 month contract (approximately April the the end of September)

This is an "Onsite" position that will be based in a construction site in Duncan, British Columbia.

Please note that this position does not include a living-out allowance.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure full compliance with Trotter & Morton Safety programs on jobsites

  • Assist the Project Managers and Superintendents in day to day duties of project administration

  • Maintain and update the Shop Drawing Log, review Shop Drawings and submittals

  • Coordinate submittals and procure all close-out documents including warranties and Operating and Maintenance Manual

  • Assist with quality control activities in accordance with instructions and inspection programs

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date logs (RFI, Vendor/Subcontractor, Purchase, Owner etc.) track responses and advise the Project Manager and Superintendent of the status of RFI's

  • Maintain and control documents in compliance with Trotter & Morton Standards as well as contractual compliance

  • Understand and perform document control functions in accordance with on-site policy and procedures, including tracking and creating RFI's, transmitting and tracking of submittals and maintain project expediting list

  • Performs other duties as required

  • Computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Blue Beam

Required Experience

  • Experience in an office or construction setting would be an asset

  • In the process of obtaining a university degree would be an asset
