Director, Benefit Analytics (Public Sector)
About the role
The Director, Benefits Analytics is responsible for leading the underwriting / analyst department supporting public sector clients, developing sound underwriting strategies, policies, and procedures, and ensuring consistent and profitable risk selection across all lines of business. This individual will oversee a team of benefit analysts, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and support overall company growth by maintaining underwriting integrity and profitability.
The Director, Benefit Analytics (Public Sector) will:

Strategic Analytics & Reporting
- Lead the development and delivery of benefit analytics and dashboards that provide insights into benefit utilization, cost trends, employee engagement, and ROI.
- Create reporting tools and templates using data analytics to ensure clients are provided with strategic analysis of their benefits plan performance, trends and sustainability.
- Monitor and forecast healthcare claims, costs, and utilization patterns.
- Use data and analytics to continuously improve underwriting processes and standard operating guidelines to be implemented.

Benefits Optimization & Modeling
- Create scenario modeling and cost/benefit analysis to assess plan design changes, vendor negotiations, and new benefit offerings.
- Analyze industry benchmarks and internal data to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with the consulting team to manage benefits budgeting and forecasting deliverables for clients.

Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of benefit analysts.
- Establish training programs to ensure team members stay current on industry standards and best practices.
- Oversee annual evaluation of team members.
- Promote a culture of data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.

Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Monitor adherence to internal guidelines, regulatory requirements, and reinsurance treaties.
- Implement quality control procedures to maintain accuracy and integrity of client deliverables.

Business Development Support:
- Partner with sales, product, and marketing teams to evaluate new product opportunities and market segments.
- Provide underwriting input on pricing strategies and product design.
- Participate in the RFP process for new sales.
- Serve as a subject matter expert as needed.
To be a successful Director, Benefit Analytics (Public Sector) you will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of underwriting experience, including experience with public sector benefits requirements.
- Deep knowledge of underwriting principles, risk management, and industry regulations.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with underwriting and data analytics tools.
- Demonstrated success in managing change and driving operational efficiency.
- M365, including proficiency in Excel.
