Position Summary We are looking for a licensed 310T Truck & Coach Mechanic to join our fleet maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of heavy trucks and equipment, including diesel, CNG, gas, and electric vehicles. This is a hands-on position that plays a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of GFL’s fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair operational difficulties with heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment.
- Maintain and repair heavy diesel, CNG, gas, and electrically operated equipment and vehicles.
- Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and brake systems.
- Complete reports, work orders, order parts, and perform other administrative duties as required.
- Plan and schedule repairs in the M5 planner system and procure required parts.
- Assist in the review of mechanical write-ups on equipment and coordinate repair schedules.
- Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Utilize a variety of power and hand tools and equipment.
- Provide and maintain the tools necessary to perform maintenance tasks on heavy/hydraulic equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Conform to all applicable federal, provincial/state, and local laws and regulations, as well as company policies and directives.
- Assist in the training and orientation of new employees.
- Stay current with industry technology through technical manuals, training seminars, and certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; technical diploma preferred.
- Valid 310T Truck & Coach Mechanic License (mandatory).
- Minimum of one (1) year of hands-on experience as a diesel mechanic (waste, transportation, or construction industry experience is an asset).
- Experience with diagnostic software is an asset.
- Must be computer literate, with the ability to learn and work with fleet management software systems.
- Must meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to company standards.
- Valid driver’s license (DZ or AZ preferred but not required).
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions, work independently, and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to read and effectively use repair and parts manuals in English.
- Skilled in operating vehicles and equipment required to perform job duties.
- Physically capable of performing all aspects of the role.
Physical/Mental Demands
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and balance.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle tools and equipment.
- Frequent lifting/pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs.
- Continuous visual and mental attention required (close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, focus adjustment).
Working Conditions
- Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, hot and cold weather, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
- May occasionally be required to work at heights or in precarious places.
- Work environment is typically loud and fast-paced.
