As Macklan launches its Product Development & Innovation (PDI) Centre , we are seeking a Director of Design Integration (PDI) to unite architecture, engineering, manufacturing, and construction into one seamless delivery system. Reporting to the CEO for PDI strategy, standards, and performance, and to the President of Somerled for portfolio priorities and design-freeze readiness, the DDI will also work closely with DORA’s Preconstruction and Estimating teams to ensure constructability, milestone pricing, and procurement alignment.
Leading a small integration team, the DDI will be supported by a Design Project Delivery Manager focused on client cadence and approvals, and a Design Technical Lead overseeing A/E coordination, codes, manufacturability, and BIM. Together, they will turn design intent into manufacturable and buildable packages such as panels, modules, and mass timber assemblies ready for factory production and site delivery. The DDI will drive on-time design freezes, cost-aligned solutions, and factory-ready packages that reduce rework and change orders across Macklan’s portfolio.
The ideal candidate is a design or engineering leader who thrives at the intersection of creativity and production, bringing both vision and precision to how buildings are developed and delivered. They are comfortable navigating complex public-sector environments including Education, Health, and Long-Term Care, able to accelerate where possible, move deliberately when needed, and collaborate closely when the client team is strong.
Based at Macklan’s Dartmouth headquarters, the role involves regular collaboration with project and manufacturing teams at the Trenton R&D facility and occasional travel to sites across Nova Scotia.
