Position Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Manager of Professional Practice, you will provide nursing clinical and educational expertise with a patient-centered & evidence-informed focus to our 6 & 7 Surgical units to support excellent standards of nursing care. You will be responsible for assessing learning needs, and designing, delivering and evaluating educational programs. You will play an active role in nursing and departmental visioning, planning and development. You will collaborate with other educators to assist in corporate-wide educational initiatives as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or Education preferred
  • Minimum 5 years critical care experience required
  • Demonstrated success in nursing educational role
  • Commitment to excellence in all aspects of the discipline including professional practice, education, & research
  • Strong clinical and theoretical background within specific clinical area(s)
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership in nursing clinical practice and education
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability in all aspects of adult education, including needs analysis, program and workshop design, evaluation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize principles of knowledge transfer to facilitate practice change & implementation of best practices
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams
  • Excellent project-management skills
  • Computer literacy in a Windows environment utilizing Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize, & prioritize work within a dynamic environment
  • Good attendance and work record are essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify learning needs of individuals; units and departments to support clinical (nursing) program goals and best practice at the hospital
  • Coordinate, plan, implement and evaluate nursing education/programs
  • Work collaboratively with others, including staff, managers, educators and clinical specialists to identify learning needs and develop education/training programs to meet these needs, and evaluate the outcomes
  • Assist in the facilitation of a welcoming environment for all learners
  • Promote and contribute to an environment that encourages research, it’s application and implementation & evaluation of best practices
  • Supports excellence in nursing professional practice through leadership practice, education, project management and change agency
