About the Project
Red Chris is a gold and copper mine located in Taltan Territory, northern British Columbia. Operated by Newmont since 2023, the mine is transitioning from open pit to underground block caving—an innovative method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact. This transition will create new, technically advanced roles and opportunities to work alongside global experts. We are committed to partnering with the Taltan Nation and local communities, ensuring the project delivers long-term social, environmental, and economic benefits.
Your Impact
As Principal, Project Controls, you will provide subject matter expertise to develop, implement, and optimize project control systems and processes that ensure accurate monitoring, reporting, and performance management. Your insights will directly support data-driven decisions, enabling the team to achieve project objectives and maintain alignment with Newmont’s global standards.
As a Part of Our Team, You Will
- Lead the development and implementation of consistent project control processes across major regional projects.
- Create and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and performance dashboards.
- Provide guidance and technical expertise to project teams and leaders.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate risk assessments and define mitigation strategies.
- Generate reports and presentations highlighting project progress, risks, and outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with Newmont’s project control standards and best practices.
- Support capability development by mentoring project teams in tools, systems, and methodologies.
Training & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in project controls for large-scale or mega projects within the resources or mining industry.
- Advanced proficiency in cost control, scheduling, estimation, and risk management tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable insights.
- Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional, multicultural environments.
Your Work Environment

This role is based in Vancouver and will require frequent travel to the Red Chris Project site. As construction ramps up, there will be an increasing requirement to spend extended time at site.

You will work in a hybrid setting that combines office-based responsibilities with on-site engagement, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, EPCMs, and contractors. The role requires adaptability to remote project conditions and flexibility during critical phases, which may include extended hours to meet key milestones.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$CAD 160,650 - CAD 224,910 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
